I have shown some of this agate before but never this good. I cut these slabs from a stone that I have had laying around for a while. I have found quite a bit of it in one area but had no idea where the source was. It almost had to be river wash from the Big Horn mountains. Yesterday a friend of my sons came to the house and was wanting to buy a ring. I was showing him around my shop and happened to show him these agate slabs. He told me that there was a lot of agate on his parents ranch and it looks the same as what I was showing him. BINGO!!!! I may have found the source of this agate because the ranch is directly between where I find this stone and the mountains. He bought a ring and offered to take me to the valley where the agate is and gave me permission to go there any time I want. There is a possibility that I will be able to add a new agate to the long list of agates that are available. I do not have a name for it yet because I am not sure I have found the source. DO YOU THINK THAT I AM EXCITED? ? HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The deeper I go into the stone the larger the white area gets but that is not the really good part. Here is the great part close up. The red speckles are amazing. I hope ya'll like it. It may be available in the near future and I would like your opinions on it. Thanks for looking. Jim

I think it is a good rockhound agate, and do like the speckles. But the overall color is a bit bland and there are fractures. I do not think there is much commercial potential. But, you could likely sell some on ebay for a few bucks a pound.

Those photos were taken dry by the way. If you like red and pink, PM me your address and I will send a couple of slabs to you so you can see it in person. Jim

Jim, I'd buy and try to cab some Wampidite. If you have a chunk I'll buy it.

I think that's a fantastic color, and the wispy clouds are great too!! Think of the popularity of rose quartz... it doesn't have patterns, other than crackles, and it's pretty ONLY because of the color. Wouldn't you say that rose quartz is one of the most commercially popular stones, despite being a bit on the boring side?
There are VERY few pink rocks, and the color is often the deciding factor for why a woman buys jewelry, which is why rose quartz is everywhere. Women LOVE pink, and pink goes with almost anything. I think you have something neat there Jim:).

Way to go Jim, I love the name Wampidite. There are countless stones that have no pattern and they have great appeal. Pink is hot and always in demand. How does this material polish up? I would buy some from you to check it out. I don't have any Wyoming rocks and would love to have one that was discovered by a friend. Here are a few other names you might want to consider. Wampidagate or Wamp Agate or just good old Wampidy Agate. Later ;D Stu

I was thinking more along the lines of "Jim Brown Shell Wyoming Red Spotted Agate". Or I could mix the words up a little and the first letters would spell JW BRASS LOL I may have to have a name the rock contest. Wampidy will not be part of it. That name came from a time that I was trying to come up with a user name for some site and everything I tried that was anywhere close to Jim Brown was already taken. I bounced a bunch of things around in my head (it is hollow you know) and wampidy popped out. I have NEVER had a problem since joining a site because the name was taken. It has no other significance. I have not cut very many of these rocks but some of them have fractures and some of them have no fractures. I am not sure if some of it was buried below the frost line a lot longer or if it is just how it turned out when it was hatched. As I cut more of it I will get a better idea of how bad and how many fractures there will be. Helen - You have a slab of this rock but it does not have as many speckles as the one in the photo. John - same deal as before. Do you want a few slabs or some rough? The cab on the right is from this stone This guitar cab was made from it also. upsidedOwnducks wrapped it for me and it turned out spectacular and my daughter loves it. Jim

The slabs look OK but the cabs are much better. It'll be interesting to see what you find on the ranch.

Ohh... I do have a piece!!! I thought that was coprolite tho... it's not only pink, it's also got lavender and rose, with rose colored speckles in the lavender, plus a touch of yellow at the top. The pinks are translucent, while the lavender is opaque (and the rose speckle part is opaque on mine).
And it's got fine color gradations, which is so much prettier than brecciated. The pix you are showing is mostly shades of pink with rose speckles. But I don't want to cut up my specimen piece to make cabs:P.
