My favorite kind of wrap. You did real good Larry. You must have a fast cutting groove machine. Jim

Using a Inland Swap Top grinder with 1mm groove bit, which is wearing out quick. Done maybe 50 grooves on hard jasp-ag and it's starting to take a little force to cut the groove. First 20-30 was easy. My finger tips still hurt today from pushing this batch of 14 cabs. Not really happy with the bails, too tall and I'm going to redo them.

I also like the pink ones best! But I love the look of them all sitting there invitingly on the plate! And, geez, when did you collect these, like 9 days ago? Talk about instant gratification!

Yeah, after a good rock hounding trip, I don't sleep well until I slice open the interesting rocks. Guess it's a part of the addiction you all gave me!

Hi Larry, that is some tasty looking plateful of goodies! I'm curious about the groove bit you mention. Could you attach a picture or give more description? I have a similar setup but the bit is about 5mm and the guesswork involved takes a lot of time and isn't very accurate in controlling the depth of the groove. Also curious to know how you polished the stones. Did you use a cabbing machine, or a vibe or what? Thanks for the info. Cheers! from Robbiejohn.

Robbiejohn, I groove using a Inland Swap Top grinder with a Inland 1mm groove bit. Go to their site and you'll see the 2 they have available, 1mm & 1.5mm. Think Inland calls them grinding drums. I cab using a Ameritool machine, which can be used indoors. I have 100, 180, 220, 600 & 1200 diamond discs. Do the final polish outside using a homemade arbor machine I made using a 8" expando drum with a felt belt & cerium oxide. I do all my cabbing on our dining room table, with the permission of Diane! More info on the bit & depth of cut is discussed in this past post. I don't sell cabs, it's all a hobby and give them away to friends and family. But my inventory is getting huge! I CAN'T STOP! forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=wwp&action=display&thread=51415This aluminum angle works great. I'm able to cut a perfect groove, depth and width all the way around the cab.
