If you decide not to keep it I'd buy it.

I've never done fire agate, but generally I rough tumble everything in a rotary like this. The common advice, however, is to have a barrel dedicated to polish, so you'd want a different one for that.
Personally I use a vibe to do the last 3 stages because it is faster, but you can do it all in a rotary.

The rotary will change the shape of them unless you pad them - which I don't know a lot about.
That's why I use the vibe, it really just smoothes the stone and polishes it up.
If you want them to stay the same shape as what you grind, the vibe stays pretty close. The rotary may change the shape, but someone else may be able to help with cushioning.

I think Star Diamond made the Sears tumblers. Star Diamond sold their tumbler line to Lortone before they went under so they look a lot like some of current Lortone products. You can use the rotary to remove softer matrix and rough grind the fire agate. If they are already ground and sanded I don't see why you couldn't polish them in a rotary with a lot of filler/cushion. The rotary won't alter shapes in polish stage (providing the rocks are not beating each other to death.

John, I've never used padding in a rotary, is this the whole plastic bead thing people do?

Plastic pellets or ceramic media. I've never used leather but have read about it here.

The tile spacers will work. They're made of plastic.
I think I still have a barrel for one of those tumblers. The same tumbler was sold at Montgomery Wards and a few other department stores. All they changed was the store decal. I think John is right about them being produced by Star Diamond.

Yes, it looks just like my 15 lb. Star Diamond, only smaller.
