Just got this from a friend today. 25 + lbs of old stock Mexican crazy lace. Lots of slabs, and hopefully at least a 4" sphere. Don

That is going to be one interesting sphere! Mexican Crazy Lace is one of my favorites. Keep the pictures coming showing your progress.

Weather permitting, I'm gonna slab the smallest end tomorrow. Start working it into a cube.

My saw is on wheels. When the wind gets up over 40 MPH, the damn thing takes off across the cement slab where I cut. Blows away the oil dry under the saw too.

Depending on internal cracks, maybe 5". Gonna shoot for at least 4". A couple of the chips are showing red, so I'm hoping this is the red crazy lace. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Pushing the limits of my 16" saw. Gonna have to trim it down a couple cuts. Turn it and make a couple more cuts, etc etc.

Got the end nub off. I'll cut 1 slab before I turn it.

I can't wait Don! I _love_ crazy lace, ever since I was a kid and first saw it.
So is that just desert varnish on the outside?

Hey Chuck, this is very old stock. This is material that had weathered out, and was laying loose on the ground. The newer material is dug out of a seam.
If anyone wants the end nubs to break up and tumble, give me a shout. After I get the oil cleaned off, I'll send them out.

Well, the first slab is off and cleaned. I started with an end that didn't show much promise. So far kind of blah, but colors are starting to show up. Pale lavender, gray, white, beige and just a little bit of red. Lots of spider web fractures, all healed with clear agate. Some nice fortification starting to show. There may be a few crystal lined vugs too.

I'd be interested in any cabbing material you want to part with. Maybe we could work out a trade.

Don't know how many slabs I'll get. I'm cutting it into a cube for a sphere pre-form. I'll get as many slabs as I can. A couple are already spoken for, and I want to save a couple for myself. Any that's left over I'll put up for grabs.
