I'm sorry Tammy, we had a limited sign up time, and the routes are all scheduled for this round. I may do another round after this closes, and will definitely post sign up for it if I do:).

I think they are getting ready to post signups for the regular (non-newbie) travelling box, which it looks like you qualify for. Although ours is more fun! :-) JK.

Hi dbryans:)! When I post a sign up, you can join, but we have to finish this round out first, and that will be at least a month or 2 more.
Welcome to the forum! RTH has such a wealth of wonderful knowledge and information. Just participate, post a lot (even if it's just to say something nice about all the lovely photos people post!), and get to know people! You'll feel comfortable and have lots of posts in no time.
There's a lot going on on the forum besides just the boxes, for example, you can join the Killer Cab competition if you are a cabber, there's different sections for you to show off your new work and interests (this is the fastest way for people to get to know you and what you do).
I just noticed that the only posts you have made have been in the Traveling Box threads... that tells us nothing about you, so how about you start by telling us more about yourself in the intro section, what you like, what got you interested in rocks, and if you're already a collector, jeweler, cabber, wire wrapper, silversmith, etc, let us know who you are. Then post photos of what you make, link any websites you have to your signature, etc.
If you are a complete newbie to rocks, that's OK too, let us know what got you interested, etc. This is a very social forum, where people not only share info, and arguments O.o, people tend to send each other rocks and things as well. The faster people get to know you, the easier it will be for you to feel at home:).

I got the rock box today and I have no idea how Zach got it all in there. It is slam-packed full! Here it is after cutting it open: Here's what I took out: Here's what I put back in: Arizona Petrified "Rainbow" Wood Sodalite A couple of Ethiopian opals. Keep in mind, these are hydrophane, so they will go clear when put in water. They're directional, so I couldn't get any good pictures of them, but they are precious. A few pieces of opalized wood from Virgin Valley, Nevada. These are common, but could be good practice for an opal "newbie" or good specimens. Labradorite Tiny marquis Aussie Opal cabs (precious). There are 25 in there, so enough for everyone left to get at least 2. I'm still in the process of trying to repack it. I can't seem to get it all back into a MFR box, so I may have to go up to a large one or take more out LOL.

Here we go again... Alisha... take some MORE! You didn't like the barite rose either?! If you do, please take it:). It takes up a huge amount of space in the box and it's a really neat specimen:). I don't know what other bigger things are in the box, but please don't be so polite about it.
This was supposed to be the newbie box where the newbies get more stuff. You're one of the newbies, so you need to take more stuff:). And no, you do not need to put more stuff back in, those opals are worth more than a few rocks, so don't feel guilty, and take some of the bigger things out if possible, or how will you get the box closed:P? LOL!

Take more alisha! haha i crammed too much stuff into it, you will probably need to get a new flat rte box, the more rectangular one might be easier to put it all in than the flater one i used.

Ulster, you're another one!!!! You took practically nothing too!!! I KNOW there are neat things in that box that you guys don't have... I don't know why you didn't get more.
After this round is over, before we start another round, we all need to discuss what the rules might be for the next round... maybe something like... swap out at least 1/4 of the box or something, so people do not feel shy about taking stuff they don't have?

Alisha What Helen said. I regret not taking more out now when I think about all the great stuff Helen, Don and Krystee sent. I could have had more awesomerest stuff and you have the chance to do it now. Jim

Okay, I'll go back through it and see what else I could take to make it easier to pack. LOL. You don't have to tell me twice; I will take the rose. It's beautiful! Thanks Oh, and I have a new box like the flatter one you used and a taller, more rectangle one too. I tried two times on each one to strategically pack them to no avail. There is just so much stuff! I have a larger one too, so if I can't make myself take more, I'll put it all in there.

See Alisha? This is the newbie box, but we have a lot of very generous members in Don's shoes... they want to share what they have... but don't necessarily need the things in the box because they already have them (that's why I tried to add more unusual not common things too!). Newbies DO NOT HAVE them. If you see something you like, TAKE it! HOW are the 'old timers' going to top the box up if they can't take anything out and can't put anything in:P?
YOU are one of the newbies in this swap. DO NOT feel guilty about taking more than your fair share, because the reason for the box in the first place was to see you go OOOH!!! AHHHH!!!! I really wanted this, I feel greedy about taking it, but I am grateful I have it:)!
It is OK that you do not fill the box back up!!!! That makes a bit of ROOM for the old timers too. Stuff spaces with newspapers. Next guy getting the box is Kap, who already said he had tons of rocks and wanted to send stuff to newbies... what's he going to do with this overstuffed box?
If the problem is not knowing values... don't worry about it. People on here send out gifts for no reason other than to be generous, you already know that. There are people, like Don, who have so many rocks they don't have a place to put them, a lifetime of collecting, and would probably appreciate seeing something they may not have and trade much higher valued stuff for it because they have tons of it, but none of that. You take more expensive stuff so he can do that. It will all work out:).
While I had said earlier, equal or better value, what I guess I should have instead emphasized is DON"T PUT POOP IN THE BOX!!! Not saying anyone did!!! saying some SPACE is OK if you cannot fill it!! If the next person doesn't have extra, then the person after that will, or will want to put something big in for something small. DO NOT feel you have to replace everything in the box so it's stuffed if you don't have it, and start digging into your favorite treasures or putting stuff no one would like in.
Newbies aren't expected to have as many rocks as old timers. Newbies are expected to take MORE, and every single person in this swap has said that... until the box gets to them and they do the same thing!!!! LOL!!!
You haven't seen it before? You like it? TAKE IT!!!! If it's something where there's multiples of the same thing? You MUST take one.
Example, I noticed that Paul put several pieces of 2 types of really gorgeous obsidian in there. ONE PERSON is not going to need 4-5 pieces of obsidian. Have you ever seen polished gold obsidian? Good obsidian glows in the craziest way.
You are opal obsessed... polish up one of these pieces and you will fall in love again. You can get lost in the stone. Take a piece each of the gold and a silver striped obsidian, and when you can cab, you will be glad you did. Opals are like liquid rainbows, obsidians are the sheen and shimmer of velvet. Smooth, beautiful, soft, incredibly delicate colors. Not all obsidian is the same, even if they don't look like much dry. Take 4 pieces of obsidian out, wet them, and run outside and look at them in the sun wet, turn them around and around and see how the sun catches them, then pick 2 different colored ones:).
That's just ONE of the nifty types, and I talked about it because Paul took such clear photos of what he included. I'm sure there are many many types of rocks in the box that are just as interesting or more interesting. You cannot always tell what a slab can become just from looking at it dry. The obsidian probably look like boring hunks of black glass, but to inspect it closer is to be amazed.
Alisha... do not change the box to a different box... Medium Flat Rate boxes cost $11.45 to ship. Every other box is by weight... and it can cost you $30 OR MORE. Don't do that!! ALWAYS ship rocks in 'flat rate' boxes, it can be quite a difference in cost!!
If you have to get a bigger box (why? Take more out til it fits!!!), go up to a Large Flat Rate Box. The PO gives the boxes out free. I'd just reuse the box you have, take out enough so it fits, then tape the heck out of it, and let Kap rebox:P.
Also... the fact that you don't want to take more out... did everyone before you pack the box with undesirable poop? If you DO NOT take more out, that's what everyone's going to think:).

Okay, I took out the rose, a piece of the Owyhee jasper and a whole thunderegg/geode on top of the things I already posted about taking out. Oh, and I took out two of the plastic display stands for when, and if, I ever get better at carving. Everything is fitting nicely inside of a MFR box now. When I said I was considering moving up to a larger box, I meant a LFR since I already have 1 of those too. I wouldn't dare try to ship a large box that wasn't a flat rate... I loved this and want to say "Thanks Again Helen!"
