Went out to the peridot area last week to double check for a field trip I lead on June 23 and found some realy good stuf in the magma. here I am on the hillside banging on the basalt where I see some one of the first I found about 1/2 inch diameter bit better about 1 1/2 inch across if I want i could get a facet piece from this group - but I like the way ma nature did it kinda neet how mush Peridot( all the green spots) is in there however how do I get it out basalt is really hard just for giggles I was standing by the spot I unloaded the peridot and noticed it was next to my Colorado KImberlite and almandine dirt( on the right,( weed and grass wont grow in kimberlite dirt- only d--- dandelions ) from the pipe-- it is diamondnific but unfortunately almost all are microscopic. Above the blue spoted rock is IOLITE crystals Hopee you enjoyed Dicky

Thank you Dicky! It's neat to see these rocks in their natural habitat! The peridot in basalt - can it be slabbed & cabbed just like it is, with the green in the basalt for contrast?

Beautiful stuff, Dicky, and thank you for showing pics of the sowbelly. Quite a climb to reach the material, too. Does it have "real" silver in it like some varieties of onyx? What kind of garnets did you find near the peridot? pyrope or almandine? I love garnets!! I thought maybe they were pyrope you found since I think they are mins that are indicators of diamond also.

Oh wow, now that's some good-looking sowbelly!! LOL, Krystee, I thought I was going to see a sowbelly cab that you cabbed. Have you cabbed any of the sowbelly? Do y'all have any idea of who named it "sowbelly?" Is the hill where it is found called "Sowbelly?"
