Visiting family in Wisconsin, so of course I had to go to my favorite off limits quarry. Here the feldspar is so weathered that the granite just crumbles leaving behind huge quartz crystals. Some up to 80 cms. It's my favorite kind of rockhounding. Walk around and pick crystals up off the ground. Smokey quartz Just laying on the ground! A very included quartz point Broken cross section. Had to leave due to a tornado othe ground a half mile away. Wll go back tomorrow and try to collect some beryl and some more Wausau moonstone.

As you can see, this member was a guest member who is long gone. If your sole purpose for registering was to stir cr@p in a years old thread, then you wasted your time.

Hey Conrad,
Thanks for letting me hound on your property, this is one of my favorite spots since I seen this post a few years ago. I collect there every time I go back to visit family. We should plan an RTH-round up next season.

@azrockgeek - if you find more of that heliodor, let me know. I'll buy all you bring back; again. Last time was super nice. Once I got it faceted, the local jeweller's paid top dollar. Apparently that size and color are exceedingly rare. Kicks the Russian's @ss!

I know Geoff well, I think he is living in Iceland now. I missed this thread so I am going to have to get Geoff to post the GPS location for that place. Wonderful hounding and that is his favorite place so I am sure he has been back at least a dozen times. Doesn't look like the family is very interested if the stuff is just laying around everywhere and not picked up. Jim

it always amazes me that someone can look at a picture devoid of any landmarks or regional markers and 2 years later come back and say... hey that's my land in that picture. I guess the wind doesn't blow there and it never rains more than a tenth of an inch so erosion changing the landscape is out of the question too.... place is still in the same pristine condition as when this photo was taken...... very unusual and cool!!

That was me. Bad habits from a lawless childhood and an excruciatingly antisocial personality to the point that I get the sweats when I talk to people I don't know. I always figured that based on the amount of trash, beer cans, and broke down vehicles that abandoned quarries were pretty much just that. Abandoned. Anyway, if you're looking to press charges or whatever just PM me and I'll let you know where to send the paperwork.
