Made some recommended improvements to the face and it looks much better now. Because of the color in the stone and the stone causing areas to look flat even though they are not a slight change in angle of the photograph can change the look of the face. At one angle the chin almost disappears and at another angle it looks prominent. I have also been doing a lot of sanding but it is impossible to tell that yet. Sanding the background I had to use sandpaper on the end of a stick but for the rest of it I have been using a fingernail emery board which is an excellent rough sanding tool for this soft stone. At this point I am still sanding dry and gentle. Please add your opinion, good or bad, I just might learn something. Thank you Jim

Let the game of patience begin. LOL
You are certainly a master in patience, I would have messed up a long time ago by pushing ahead.
Just in time as I'm looking for a practical design of ears for my own current project.
Looks great, can't wait for the completed work.

Very nice! Great detail and proportion. If I were to offer one thing, I'd say that the mouth seems small, but it is also fitting for what my mind's eye sees for a fairy, so I'm not sure that it really is too small. Did that make sense? LOL! I think this is great with no changes. The ears and the way the dragon wraps around the arm are quite well done. Can't wait to see it finished.

I think the Dragon & Fairy carving are coming along beautifully, Jim! I really like how the pair are looking at each other. Cannot wait to see the final results of the carving.

Looking better. The striations in the stone are not nearly as evident, leaving a much cleaner face.

I LOVE how you got the eye to look RIGHT at the dragon... that's fantastic!!! I agree the mouth is bit too small, but the eye is SOOOO much better, and the chin is MUCH better too:)!!! Looking good!!

Thanks all. I am still not completely happy with the face but I am not unhappy either.
Had a setback yesterday when I broke one of the fins off the dragon while sanding. The emery board jammed between two fins and snapped one off. Should have been pulling instead of pushing. It will take a little work but I think I can fix it. Going to change the look a little but not in a bad way. Jim
