Several of the more seasoned folks from the local rockhounds got together and hosted a "rock and gem" garage sale.
I honestly forgot about it until I was driving by yesterday and happened to see the big white and red sign. Apparently this happens every year and I just never happened to see the sign. I just joined the rockhounds this year and heard about it at our last meeting.
I stopped in and made a few purchases. Then stopped by again this morning while running errands for my wife. I made one last stop at the end of my errands.
Here goes. First up a huge chunk of polka dot jasper. Side one (guitar pick in hand for scale. I didn't have a coin in my pocket):
Side Two:
I've been seeing all the palm on here lately and honestly have been a little jealous. Well the had a big ole' hunk of that too. Side one:
Side Two:
Side three:
I bought one lot of slabs from the same guy who was selling the chunks:
Detail 1 (Mooka):
Detail 2 (Mooka):
Detail 3 (Crazy Lace):
Detail 4 (mystery jasper):
Detail 6 (rhodonite?):
Detail 7 - I am most excited about this one. It is turquoise in copper of some sort:
Detail 8 (Mooka):
Detail 9 (another exciting one, "Tennessee Agate"):
Detail 10 (mystery jasper):
This is another lot, this is a mixture of slabs from Wayne Shortridge - some of you long-time Fairburn Folks may have heard of "Shortridge Agate" - well Wayne is in the local rockhounds and is a heck of a guy. I've gotten to know him a little and have seen his unbelievable Fairburn collection in person. The greenish Amazonite was from another seller. This group had several picture jaspers and some lapiz. There is one unique teepee in the mix:
Owyhee Jasper Chunk - Side 1:
Side 2:
Another seller had slabs for $2/lb. This was 3.5#
Detail 1 - I think Owyhee and some Montana Agate:

It was a lot of fun. I really enjoy being able to rub elbows with these folks.
