Took the family up into the mountains today. We were originally going to head to my cousin's ranch in Nebraska, then do some Fairburn hounding today, but things didn't work out. We drove an hour or so up the canyon, past where all the recent wildfires have done their damage, and hiked along the river for a few miles. Heading out: We stopped on a nice bend in the river and the kids played by the water, which meant about 30 minutes of "Dad, look at this" - as they all collected rocks and other treasures to show off. It was a lot of fun. There was a big rock with some really colorful lichen: Oud kids: Heading back to the car: It was a lot of fun. It was nice to get away. The weather was a little cool but it was beautiful.

It was so alarming to drive down Rt 25 and see the smoke emerging from burnt ground. At first I was puzzled, wondering if it was volcanic activity, then I remembered hearing about the fires. So glad the rains came.
Looks like a terrific outing! Find much tumbler food? Jo
