We went to bed last night expecting a 3:00am departure but couldn't sleep. So we stayed up! Met up with Christopher at 7:00am and headed to our secret gully. Checked out a few locations Bluesky Susan hit last weekend. Christopher continued to climb over the mountain looking for new material. Goober & I headed back to my favorite hot spot. Noticed a seam of jasp-ag cutting across the gully even though I walked over it 6 times in the past. Duh! No heavy buckets this trip. Distributed the weight in a day pack and 2 canvas bags. So much easier. Last trip about killed me. Gathered up more material that makes cool cabs. Most of this stuff has black/red eyes in it. Speaking of black/red eyes. Ain't bad for a 59 year old on his birthday who's been up for over 24 hours! Shave that gray beard off and I might pass for 39? What happens when you wear shorts out there. Lots of interesting colors to cab up. LarryS

Here is my bounty from our trip I really like the 10lbs chunk of bright red jasper!! Even though it was Larry's birthday I sort of felt like it was mine because of the gifts Larry and Diane gave me.......take a look....now I have my very own TOM TOM not to mention all the wire and the groove wrapping fence!!!! Once again it was a great pleasure to visit with you all I hope Goober's paw is okay!!

When you're as old as I am, birthdays don't count anymore. Just another day.
As we've discussed in the past, you needed a GPS. Now when you have those wild Friday nights, you don't have to call your wife for directions to get home. The lady on the Tom Tom machine will direct you right to your driveway. I already programed your home address in it.
Goober must have been bitten by one of those monster black ants. He was fine after about an hour.

Hey Larry, you're still a kid. When you get my age, you start counting them in reverse.
Must be dog snacks in that pack. Goober looks like he's guarding it.
Don't cut the beard. Repeat, DON"T CUT THE BEARD !! One of these days I'll set up the tripod and get a pic of me. Beard, long hair and all.

Hey Don, Pack was full of only the important things, Goober's water & bowl, Diet Dr Pepper and rocks. Cut the beard? No way, I hate shaving! I keep my hair and beard 1/2" short, same as Goober's. That way we keep better control of fleas & ticks! Here it is 25 years ago. It's just changing color, that's all. This is in Baja playing with Indian pottery, before I figured out rocks are more important! Hey, it's the same day pack. It's a special one that is insulated and could carry a 12 pack of ice cold Budweiser for me & my buddies while climbing up the granite canyons. The insulation worked out great where the rocks didn't dig into my back. I still only wear a t-shirt, shorts & tennis shoes. When I dress formal, I put on socks! Larry

Sounds like you had a fun trip! Glad to hear it was only an ant that bit Goober. Probably the cool weather recently has kept the rattlers at bay. Jean

LarryS, you have this birthday thing all wrong! When you get older, it is more important to celebrate them. Our four kids always bring over birthday cake and ice cream! Fun stuff!

Lovely colors, you guys! Gotta love collecting in the Mojave, so much variety. Just got a haircut, meself ...too many hours spent in the pit with sand in my hair. The beard never goes away, been there for 41 of my 54 years, last shaved clean in 1997. Second wife insisted on seeing what I looked like clean shaved, then exclaimed "EEEEWWW!!! You look like Jay!" So, since she insisted on seeing that I looked like my Brother-in-law, she wouldn't touch me for 2 weeks! Like the Cheshire cat's grin, the beard simply persists ... :cheesy: Cheers! Kris
