Hey Dan,
Sure was great weather to romp around out in the Mojave huh? Cady's are fantastic mountains. Amazing colors. You can even see all kinds of weird colors from the satellite images. Think you can spend a life time exploring that range and never see it all.

That's a gorgeous piece of pet wood! Is Cady where the Cady Mountain agates and jaspers are found?

Hey I am making a trip out to the Ludlow/broadwell/south Cady area this weekend and was wondering what some good material producing areas are. I would be very grateful for the help you could give me because I have been out before and found very little material at all. Should I go up the powerline road from the DQ into the Cady's or should I go into the lakebed and into the hills from there?

Dan and I used the power road to skirt the southern edge of the range. There are also many reports of going north along the east side and the entering the cadys from the east.
While you are there, don't forget to hit lavic across the freeway and hector hill needs a looksee.

The Searchers will be at Lavic this weekend and collecting in the South Cady's. If you don't know the area you might tag along with them. I think they start around 8:00 Saturday and Sunday they are cleaning up the area with BLM. They always camp/meet at the large clearing right off Rt 66 just before it crosses the I-40.

Went on the Searchers trip on Saturday. It was pretty fun, but we just went "to" Lavic. We parked in slightly different places, but nowhere you couldn't have gotten to by parking where the books describe for the "Lavic Siding" location and walking west or east. The people were nice though, it was my first field trip with them. However, I did find my first Lavic Moss . . . sweet. It's about the size of a hockey puck, maybe a little bigger. Can't wait to cut it, hopefully tonight.

They didn't go anywhere near any Thulite, afaik. Unless maybe they went on Sunday.

The Thulite is about 10 miles East of Ludlow.

Yeah, I think they were just planning to pick up trash on Sunday (is there a lot of trash at the Thulite spot? They were planning to go somewhere with a lot of trash but also maybe some rocks to pick up).

Very nice bright colored hunk of moss. Mostly it's pretty hard to spot but when you find some, it's sweet.....Mel
