Was fortunate enough to pick up the workhorse HP of the lapidary shop I started this journey in. This saves me from having to worry about getting the covington saw I took apart to restore (and got in over my head) put together in such a hurry. It's been used as a 14", but I suspect (and hope) it will accomodate the new blade 16" I have. Some of the M2 saws apparently could. I measured from the center of the arbor and it leaves about an inch below a 16" blade, but it's extremely close on the rear wall, I'd have to stick the blade in to see... but I think it'll fit. Need to pick up the other jaw of the vise, and the motor, but other than that it's just waiting for the next place. Got most of my equipment in storage right now after losing my workshop a couple months back... so looking for a new place with a garage or something so I can just do everything at home. Anyhow, wanted to share... I'm pretty excited about having an HP in such good condition. Gonna take some cleaning but it's certainly never had abuse (except for the killed blade that is in there now, courtesy of me last year... haha). Anyone have a guess as to how old it may be? It's model M2, SN 31987. Really looking forward to a chance to fire it up, I have a lot of stuff built up waiting for the 16".

Good for you, looks like a nice saw. One thing I really like seeing is the generous drain plug out front, our Royal doesn't have one, makes cleaning quite a project; I'll frustrate out some day and put one in.

You can probably get the vise part from either Diamond Pacific or possibly John Rowland at HP Lapidary. Not sure if he makes a 14" yet but may be same as an 18". The 14-16's Ive seen the 16" blade almost touches the back wall.

It is one of the "newer" style M2 14/16" saws. Probably made in the 70's somewhere. Heres what the older ones look like. John Rowland probably has the vice, just tell them how wide the base is. Lee
