Some end cuts I Elmer glued to 2x4's and was able to get a few more slabs. Biggest problem I have with this Last Chance jasp-ag is where do you draw the lines to cab it? Endless choices. Kept tripping over this Lavic rock in my spare bedroom so thought I'd slice it up. This will probably be the last Lavic I'll work with. Darn stuff stains the saw, my patio & me! Dug a hole behind the house and buried all the red rock snot out of the saw and cleaned it out. Rather deal with just the light gray jasp-ag snot instead. This stuff even stains the diamond grinding lap discs. I know, quit complaining and get to cabbing! LarryS

Hey Larry, if you aren't going to cut any more Lavic, send it to me. I'm about out after 18 years since my last Lavic trip. I don't mind the red saw and hands. lol

Larry, you do not have to draw a line on those slabs. Just clean up the edges because the whole thing is good. Jim

Beautiful pieces, Larry. I'm kinda with Jim on that last comment - sometimes the slabs look great just face polished. Paul

Well if you guys can talk Diane into just wearing slabs hanging from her neck, I'd be more than happy to leave them as is. Sure would save me a lot of work.
Don, I just gave away 2 buckets of Lavic. I do know someone who will be heading out there this coming weekend using my GPS coordinates where all the good stuff is at. I'm still hooked on Last Chance jasp-ag right now. Color variety and lack of pits is so nice. Plus it makes me hungry looking at it. Does saliva make a good saw coolant?!?

hahahaha Not what I had in mind. I was thinking that they would make nice cabs as they are. But I do not have any reference as to how big they are. I do not draw any lines on the slabs other than marking the fractures. I just clean them up on the edges and if they are to big for a cab I cut them in two or three pieces in a way that I think will look good. Doesn't always work but most of them come out great. Jim

Jim,
Larger slabs are 3" along with the 2 Lavics. Sorry, should have put a quarter down for size. I first trace out the best parts, usually 30x40mm oval or larger teardrop templates and tumble the rest. I do freeforms rarely. I slab on the thick side, 5/16"+ because I groove wrap with high domes. I've made 7 trips to this location and have plenty to work with.

Yah... I just cannot bring myself to cut up perfect slabs either... I face polish them (or in my case face epoxy them:)).

Not much good for saw coolant, but every time you guys post trip reports or pics of that fine desert material, I have to tape a funnel over my mouth. Got that hooked to my big shop vac drool sucker.
