After finishing the bat, I wanted to catch up and try some new material that I got last month from Indonesia. First up was although a piece of agate that I got from Christopher. Some close ups Then was a Jasper from Indonesia, interspersed with some agate streaks. After polishing it up, I found some more scratches. So back to 400 grid and will add tomorrow. I think the best for the day although is this one: again from Indonesia. Looks from the rough like a cut of Palm-wood. Has 3 distinctive areas. The dark inner part is very hard, a softer ring around it and getting softer the farther you get to the rind. The rind itself is so soft you can literally rub it off with your fingers. Absolutely full of plumes that go straight through the material. The pores are deep and can not be completely polished out, but it looks quite good anyhow. Could be treated with Hxtal, I suppose, but I like them natural. And the best shot I got today; Ok, till here for now, the Jasper to follow tomorrow, those scratches are nearly as persistent than in a flat Montana top. Thanks for looking, if anyone has an ID on the presumed Palm-wood, would be highly appreciated, best regards, Kurt

Thanks everyone,
Chris: its the sister-cab from the the one I used for the triangular one last month with the metallic endings of the plumes.
Just was reminded by Roy's posting, that I should enter the Jasper at the contest later today (2morrow, your time).

It looks like the mystery around the Plume Agate is solved.
On FB, someone contacted me from Indonesia and named it as "coral sea agate". Something that a few other members of that group seem to be in concord with.

Now the Plume Agate is getting thrown back into the ID cauldron. The seller, came back and gave it the Indonesian name Rane or he said in English it should be Pet-Wood. Regardless whatever name I have tried thus far, I simply can't find a single picture showing material even close to that one.

I'm a little confused, he's saying the Palm Wood is Pet Wood, right?
Well, you could just call it an Indonesian Plume Agate and hope that somewhere down the road that somebody sees it and gives you a more specific ID.
Hey Kurt, are you sure the plume is not fossilized bamboo?

Hey Kurt, are you sure the plume is not fossilized bamboo? Thanks Frane, Yes I'm pretty sure of that. Have seen Bamboo before and there are several things speaking against it. No, what I would call "hard-wood" remains, and the center "dark part" is absolutely filled with plumes too (very dark ones at that). I called it originally palm because, the strings of plumes reminded me of Palm fiber.
