I bought some geodes a year or so back and was delighted to open them up to find they were no geodes. I chose them because of the weight hoping for a lot of crystal. But didn`t think I`d find this. They came out as slick as glass. Attachments:

SilverFoxx I ran them through my vibe tumbler with a lot of various size end cuts and fractured pieces found while slabbing rough.

All I have is a rotary Loretone and it doesn't produce a shine like that. You did a good job.

Thank you SilverFoxx! A lot of it has to do with these being a very hard material. I really like the rotaries for shaping and smoothing tumbles. I just about keep mine going constantly with ocean jasper tumbling in it. It has become one of my favorite stones to work with. But agates have always been my favorite.

Your welcome JSpencer. I have a lot of small geodes that I found at the Hauser geode beds near Blythe, CA tumbling but they take forever to shape. I cut them with a tile saw and also hammer them to break them open and save the interesting pieces. Some of the geodes are solid and some are hollow. I'm thinking about soaking some of the solid pieces in a light acid to see if that will eat away some the exterior. The interiors are very beautiful.

That sounds like an interesting idea SilverFoxx. I had one small one that was attached to a large one and decided to tumble it whole in my rotary. I ran it through rough grind cycle of probably six or more loads. I never did get it totally smooth but finally got all of the hard dark crust off of it. And it does shine brightly too. Good luck with yours!
