I think I would like to get some thulite. Would someone be so kind as to share with me the location of the Ludlow/South Cady thulite deposit??

What in the heck is Thulite? Have any pictures? We're always in that neighborhood.
Edit, just did a Google search. Oh no, not another pink rock. Please don't tell the women in my family! Is it clean and easy to cab?

I am hoping to have directions to this material tonight. If I find the spot, then I'll share.
I think zoisite is the green part and thulite is the pink part. It seems they come together in the south Cady mtns. I need to get away and this seems like a reasonable trip. Rock hounding in the afternoon and snake hunting at night!

Temperatures are increasing out there. Think we'll be heading out to a remote location about 10 miles above Boron, CA later next week. Yep, key is get there at sunrise and get the heck out by 10:00-11:00am before your tennis shoes start melting.

I got some of that beautiful stone from Mel through a trade and it makes gorgeous rings. Really tough stone and it polishes great at 3000. It drills real easy like nephrite. I would be willing to buy or trade for some with a lot of pink. Jim

Dan and I did go out last Saturday to Lavic, South Cady's and the Ludlow Thulite/Zoisite site. I'll call that Zoey's mountain as the entire mountain seems to be made of zoisite. Most of it solid green to almost black. But Dan knew where the thulite was included into a nicely contrasty stone. We spent about 90 minutes digging for our treasure. I carried out abut 150#. I got greedy and paid for it on the haul out 100 yards and 50-60 vertical feet up to the truck.
I'll try to post pics of the materials tomorrrow.
LarryS did you go to the Thulite hill? I saw a fresh strawberry on the parking lot. Maybe we missed you by just a few hours??
Oh yeah! <?))))>< Fish Dan was totally cool to spend the day with. He is a very knowledgeable guy indeed. Thanks Dan!

*L* OK hate to get all sciencey on y'all but the pink portion is the manganese infused massive zoisite and the green is thought to be epidote as this rock is in the epidote group of silicates. I've also had folks tell me the green portion in the Wyoming pink and green jade is nephrite mixed with the massive pink zoisite. I really don't know for sure what the green part is. I'd have guessed the green part in the Thulite mix from Tulare County, CA was chlorite but I'd probably be wrong *L*..It can also contain inclusions of white calcite, brown axinite or black manganese I think....Mel

Shotgunner,
No way would it have been me who left a fresh strawberry on the ground. Would have thrown it in my mouth, sand and all. I did drop a few green grapes on the ground. Tis the strawberry season, cherries too. Yum!
We were only at Lavic & north Hector. Got a little worm out there huh? Wasn't too bad with that nice breeze. Perfect day for hounding. Ready to go again. Did you guys hear the Marines blowing the mountain up? John JSGems lives in Newberry Springs, right in the middle of Army's Fort Irwin and Marines 29 Palms bases. He gets to hear those deep bass tones in stereo!
