I have been bit down for the count with some back issues.
I finally got to checking the obsidian batch I put into final polish on June 7 and I am really not happy.
It seems the entire batch is smooth unlike anything I've ever seen but it is a matte finish. Even the slag is matte. I am trying really hard here to not get really upset about this.
I have restarted the batch with fresh polish and will let it go another 1-2 weeks. I have never done an obsidian batch that has turned out this way.
I will keep you posted.

I'm really looking forward to following your progress. We were at Little Glass Buttes last week and picked up over 100 lbs of various kinds of obsidian. We haven't started tumbling yet because we have over 500 lbs of rocks to sort through, mail home, and decide what to do with.
I would've thought that obsidian by nature would give a super shine almost naturally but your experience has led me to wonder. If it turns out the way you like, please pass on any tips you found that helped in the process.

If it doesn't turn out again, try burnishing and scrubbing out the bowl real good, and use fresh polish, which you are probably doing anyway. Don't fret. Feel better Sweetie. Jo

If it dosent polish up go back to 1000g and try again

PS It is always good to go back 2 stages befor trying to put the final polish on as (I understand it ) your just putting a fresh lot of polish on a BAD foundation .
