I picked this up on eBay for 5.00 plus shipping. It's in a frame. The picture in the ad was blurry, but I took a chance and won it anyway. It's a willow creek jasper. So, would you cab it or leave it framed?? The heart is about 23mm and is completely natural in the stone. Attachments:

I'd definitely cut off the ends and cab them. How far in does the heart go as there is some serious stuff in that green under it! Do you have it yet and if so, what do the back and the bottom look like?

I'd have to look at it with the template, there's other stuff going on too!

Yeah, there's some other good stuff in the piece besides the heart, like those awesome lines at the end of it!

$5.00- wow great deal. If it was only $5.00 I wouldn't do anything to it. A naural heart- priceless in my opinion but I'm a heart guy I think it's way cool the way it is.

I would take a template to it and move it around a lil bit and then decide ..

Unless the heart goes all the way through the stone, you may not have the heart if you dome it. You could leave the top flat, though. Then again, if you undecided and do nothing, you can always change your mind later.

Thanks for the input!
I'm such a newbie, that I forgot to even think about the pattern going all the way through. I did check it and it does NOT go though. I was thinking maybe a buff top cab. I'm gonna hold onto it for awhile and decide. It's cool no matter what.

I would rotate it to the right 90 degrees and look at that nice mountain range with the storm rolling over from the right and that UFO hovering over the face of the mountain!!! DUH DUMP! DA DUMP! DA DUMP! DUH DUMP! WHEEEOOOOO! WHEEEOOOOO :<))))))

Lovely rock! I'd leave the heart area alone, cut off some other portion to cab. Maybe another heart will show up! Very lucky find...

I can't get the picture to enlarge so I can't tell is it a slab ? If so...how thick is it? Ed

Thanks for the feedback Ed- Or, shall I call you Mostly? -- This is a slab. It is about 1/4 inch thick by 2.25" x 2.25". The heart is about 32mm. Thanks, Cathy for the PM's -- I have decided to wait until my skills catch up with my desires. I don't want to ruin this. With more skills that I have right now, I think this could be cabbed.

Hi Tela
my tendency would be to cab it into a heart shape the size and thickness is good enough to heart shape it but the picture makes its difficult to tell if an overall heart shape would correspond to a good location of the natural heart ?
then there is the question of would you lose the natural heart in the cabbing process ?
hhhmmm
willow creak is a fabulous stone and that one a double wonder ! your enthusiasm for lapidary is contagious and your wise to hold off until you feel your skills are sufficient.
Whatever shape or decision -you’ll do good ! Look forward to the results O & you can call me mostly anytime ;D mostly

Thanks, Mostly Thanks for the vote of confidence. If the time I spend with Gene (my genie) is any indication of competence, then I should be getting fairly competent. I might even try a cab of one of my good slabs soon.
