A couple of weeks ago, Chad sent me a pm asking if I got a trim saw yet... well, no. I got a blade for my cabmate, so I DO have a saw, but I have to remove the wheel each time, and that takes a bit of effort and 2 people (someone has to hold the belt while the wheel is removed or it just turns the whole thing). So he asks me if I want a trim saw... and since I still don't have a trim saw... and since Chad is a fellow commie liberal (not because we are mind you, but we're NOT voting for that crook Romney), I figured it would be ok... so YES! I WANT A TRIM SAW!!! Then I figured he'd forget about it... since trim saws aren't exactly the easiest things to ship, despite good intentions. Well.... yesterday, I got a trim saw!!! It's a cute trim saw, I have no clue how to use it yet, and I can't play with it til the weekend... but I'm thrilled!!! Thank you Chad!!! Despite having a crazy week and little time for rocks, I've been having a super great rock week thanks to you guys!! At the rate I'm racking up rock debts, I'll be paying for a long time! My new dirty saw!!! ;D ;D (hehe, I'll be making it WAY dirtier soon, so why clean it:P) As I was fishing around the box, I found an envelope... it said: "Obama wants you to have this". LOL! And it was full of little goodies!!! I did not get closeups of the 3 quartzes at the bottom, because you can see them clearly:). They are very nice whole specimens:)! Pretty Pink stuff (rhodonite??): A piece of gorgeous orbitals! A piece of REALLY neatly colored dragonbone... I have some dragonbone, but these colors are sooo distinct and clear! He had this labeled... but it's on the porch, so I don't have the ID handy, but it looks REALLY neat: Psilomane!! (he wrote all over it "WEAR MASK"... I don't think I'll cut it tho, it's pretty neat looking by itself:)): A little almost perfect slice of 'Condor' agate (I really love these little specimen type agate pieces!): And a cute little Mexican jelly opal: Did I make out like a bandit this week or what? O.O And wow, I like Obama even more!!! LOL! And Sheri, can this count as a 'pay it forward entry' ? I don't know if Chad let you know about it, but it sure is a nice surprise!!! And finally, I will pay it forward myself after I get the Traveling box sent out so I know what I have to ship out again:).

Very nice! I have had a pay it backwards experience with him. Late last fall, He requested a design for a tumbler, and I posted my design. What Chad wrote: « Message sent on Nov 12, 2011, 8:20pm » Thanks for the great detail in your reply to my request for a tumbler design. Will be pretty well duplicating that as it's pretty close to what I'd pictured in my head. I'd like to send you a little something in appreciation if you'd be so kind as to let me know where to send it! My reply: Hi Chad, "Glad to provide some info you can use for your project. I don't have any problems with vibration, I run it sitting on 4 cinder blocks on my basement floor. As long as it sits on a level surface it should not shimmy around. I used 2x8s so as to give clearance for the drive wheel, and depth for the bolts for the pillow blocks. I used those bolts that you drive the center pin to expand them into the hole in the wood. (the last photo shows the pins before driving them in) Nice of you to send a goodie, though I am happy to share with fellow rock lovers..." Meanwhile, I guess he figured out that I am a conservative, Never heard from him again, except for a snarky comment or two in "life". No big deal, But a good indicator of character. . . I reckon it's a badge of honor. Bill

Whoops Bill, I did forget about ya... 7 months forgot! You'll have to excuse... Have had a lot going on this year. I do have just the thing though. You'll be glad my memory took a stroll in the woods Helen, glad you like the little goodies... Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Hi Chad, As I said, no big deal. I am happy to share with my fellow rockers, even if they think I am a fascist. My apologies if my assumption was incorrect. I do my best to separate "life" and political discussions from the rocks. . . Bill

In early December I had my septum and sinuses fixed by a friendly surgeon with a chisel and hammer. Best thing ever but it did leave me woozy for the rest of 2011... So I totally forgot I was going to send you something. However, you're going to be glad. I got some interesting stuff recently that I haven't had the opportunity to play with. The previous owner was kind enough to mark them for cutting, so let me know how you do with it. I'm sending a few pcs of that with some other stuff. It's going to be worth the wait No hard feelings I hope, sometimes I get distracted with things and forget about some of the gift parcels I arrange to send out.

No hard feelings whatsoever. Life is too short for animus, and bitterness only poisons the bearer. Having occasional sinus problems myself, I can understand perfectly. Glad your surgery made it better.

The rhodonite is awesome. I just finished a rhodocrosite cab out of the stone that I got out of the traveling box and it turned out beautiful. I do not know the difference between the two stones but the rhodocrosite is very soft and needs to be worked gently. Twice I had small pieces break off and I had to reshape the cab.
I am having the same surgery in a couple of months. Not looking forward to that at all but if it will make my breathing better it will be a good thing.
Happy that ya'll got things straightened out. I am with gray that life is too short to hate, hold a grudge or dislike someone that you don't even know. It is happening all over the world and I do not understand how people can live that way.
We can't even have a give and take traveling box on here because everyone wants to give and nobody takes. lol
Bill, what is "ago solvo"? Jim

Jim, it'll be one of the best things you ever do. Was a couple weeks of discomfort and a lot of drainage that must've come straight out of a gremlins or "alien" movie... But wow. Spent the last 16 years hooked on that over the counter afrin stuff... And after they estwinged my face, it's been clear breathing ever since. I think I've had a stuffy nose twice since January. Took me 10 years to get up the guts to do it because I was afraid of the packing... But they hardly do that anymore apparently.
Good luck with yours, hope your results are as good as mine were!

Bill, what is "ago solvo"? Jim Jim, it is 'Live Free' in Latin. My sig is "Quest for stone cold shine' Bill P.S. Helen, Sorry for hijacking your thread. I am sure you will greatly enjoy your saw, thanks to Chad's generosity. My day has been made, as I like to consider all here as friends and I have had yet another life lesson in the dangers of ass-suming. Bill

I figured it had something to do with free spirit. Too bad that it is pretty much unattainable now days. A great quest though. And I am afraid that my quest for stone cold shine will be never ending. lol
Sorry for getting off subject Helen. Jim

As someone with the frequent habit of hijacking threads, I'm delighted that people are hijacking mine so I can feel somewhat justified in my own behavior. haha!
Anyway, if you guys DIDN"T talk on the thread, there'd be very little said on the thread at all:).
Between the recent yucky weather and having a bazillion things I am doing, I have had very little time to play with rocks lately, I hope I can get some time this weekend to do some cabbing too!!

Pull up on that little tab overhanging the edge to the right of the blade. That part of the table will lift up and there's a little tank for the coolant and the nut to change the blade.

Ahha! Thank you Chad:).
I guess my heckling was in vain:P. I had a deviated septum that I got fixed when I was really young. It never even occurred to me that I might have been able to ask the surgeon to improve my nose too at the time. Darn... missed opportunities....

Haha Helen, I doubt they wouldve done much for the outside. My dr had to send form after form after form after form (and maybe a sacrificed bovine or two?) to my insurance co to assure them beyond a shadow of a doubt that it wasn't an elective cosmetic procedure. Bummer too because I have a chickenpox scar on my nose that I wouldve gladly parted with
