If I put a lucky coin in with my rocks? Would the coin disappear? Would there be any damage? Does it depend on the denomination?

Very easily tested, don't think I have to explain how to do it. Might have to try that myself, think I have a few Krugerands kicking around... heh, heh, heh.
If the rocks are harder than the coin it will be abraded, fairly quickly, no telling how fast. There are some interesting chemistry experiments which show the varying compositions of coins; eg. nickel plated copper, etc., by selectively etching the interior or the exterior.
Knowingly defacing or tampering with any currency is of course against the law, so don't let Big Brother know.

If you are worried about loosing the lucky coin to the rocks you could also use a metal washer.

Interesting question, however I wonder what would be the point? I do tumble my finished ring castings. IT works well after I soak the castings in pickle. If I have fine detail, I use polish for one day. If it is not really detailed, I use polish for two days. The burnishing effect of the rings against each other probably does more than the polish but the polish seems to thicken the slurry a little and act as a buffer. If you put a coin in with halite and ran full tumbles you would end up with a metal lozenge, it might even shine. It is against the law here, even to drill an hole to make a coin pendant. I wire wrap collectable coins for people to wear.

Wouldn't the metal mark up the stones?

Depends on if the stone was harder than the metal washer, if the stone can be scratched by the washer then yes the metal would mar the stone.
