Man, here's a good one for you shooters in the group a first for me. Got me a new .22 target pistol the other day, a Chiappi Arms 1911-22 which is basically a .22 with a compensator on a .45 frame. ( Shooting .45s was breaking my allowance) Well, had a break between thunderstorms this morning so I headed out to the range to break it in which usually involves firing 300 or so rounds for starters. Started out not too shabby considering I was shooting up some old ammo so had a few duds but at about round 200, the whole front fell off the pistol *L*. Very disconcerting! The barrel bushing was apparently defective and the bottom bent and broke off setting free the recoil spring and cap which impacted the comp and shook it loose too *L*. That was a new one on me and I'm sure glad it was only a .22.
Anyway, phoned customer service and they were real helpful and are sending me new a new part but wow what a surprising morning. Sure hope I didn't get me a lemon. It's all over the workbench right now but at least I still got all my fingers. *whew*....Mel

Shooting .45s was breaking my allowance Ain't that the truth! Glad you are okay! About to pick up a Taurus .45 revolver for cheap from a co-worker. So what did that all look like exactly? Was that spring airborne or still in the pistol?

Baz, *L* I was being a bit over dramatic. The comp slowed down the spring so everything was catchable. Man, if the spring would have really shot out there, I'd still be on hands and knees looking for it *L* Had the 18 pound spring on my Sig fly loose one time and took me half a day to find the damn cap that sits over the spring, and it was in my workroom *L* Gotta say, it is not a happy event when a firearm fails but this was my first time ever. Manufacturer said they got a bad batch of bushings and mine was not the first to fail. They do stand tall behind their products and have excellent customer service though. By the way, Taurus makes fantastic products...Mel

Taurus makes fantastic products Ya, and with lifetime guarantees. The man I am buying this pistol from sent it in awhile back just for a free refurbish, nothing wrong with it, but that is just what Taurus offers with their products! It is real pretty. I will see if I can upload the photo from my phone.

I once lost control of the firing pin in my 1903 Springfield. Spent a couple of hours on hands and knees in the shop looking for that wee devil. Finally found it stuck in the drywall about six feet from the deck. I would have been pretty upset having a handgun come unglued whilst firing even if it was a 22. Woody

Woody. Yep I was pissed. These pistols are manufactured in the US but from Italian parts which are usually real good. Makes you wonder if they are outsourcing some parts to China where the metal work is not so good. Bushing metal appeared very crystalized and brittle where it broke. Not a good thing for such an important part. Hopefully the new one will be better.....Mel

Yikes! Glad you didn't get hurt.
I don't know if they're outsourcing parts to China. Italian guns aren't necessarily known for their reliability. Ever heard the expression "You ain't a Navy Seal until you taste Italian steel"?

*L* No Chuck I had not heard that but I rather like Berettas myself. Did some reading and I guess that bushing was made from pot metal, not a real fine idea for a bushing. Hopefully the replacement will be steel ....Mel
