It looks like its opposite day; everything that we usually cut out remains and the most solid parts are the ones that are thrown away. And here we go again with one of Daniels materials. I’m now just about half way through trying out his material. Here is now some extremely strange material: Tube Agate Makes two cabs, one for here, and one for the contest. It’s pretty much the first time that I wish I would have a flat-lap. Its hell when sanding this material with paper by hand. But in the end, it turned out quite alright. I know, some of you would like to shoot me for cutting it up, but, that’s just me. I don’t like things that are placed on display somewhere other than around someone’s neck.

kk, I like it! Very strange rock but has a really cool almost sculptural look!!! You did great with it, especially working it by hand!

Hey Kurt you could almost do a negative sculpture on it. Sculpt a cut out in the center of the stone to be an animal or something. But then again, that one part might get pretty thin. Just brainstorming, what you did is very cool. Jo

That's beautiful material! I've been seeing a lot of druzy cabs with holes in them, maybe it's a new trend:). The cabs certainly turned out interesting:)!

Very cool! It looks alien. I agree with Jim, i would have cut it too. Whenever I see this stuff on eBay, it is usually slabbed on a different plane. This way is pretty cool, too. You could call it Swiss Cheese Rock".

I love it! I really like "traditional" cabs, but there is something to be said for the rock that demands to be something different that is worked to perfection.

Thanks everyone. Got pretty lucky to get hold of that material, even though it's quite pricy.

That's very nice Kurt - I like what you did with it myself. I have a piece of OJ from Mark with gorgeous druzy pockets surrounded by nice O's on all sides. The druzy pockets have gradual convex slopes inside concave formations so it almost doesn't look cut (reminds me of your tube agate sort of - looks natural even when cut). I've thought about doing something like you did with it but it'll have to wait 'til my skills catch up as I don't want to ruin it learning the basics. I can tell one thing, though, a flat lap would definitely have made your life easier on the convex's there - man that looks like a lot of work you did sanding (and difficult also - keeping things on rounding planes so well). Nicely executed and the shapes look cool. Great work, this is the kind of stuff that really inspires me!

Actually, after posting I finally saw that ugly bulge on the right ( the more solid side) and this has to go. As I have something more planed with it, that will fit right in with the to do list.
