Hello everyone!! I have been floating around the forum getting ideas and doing lots of reading. I have almost completed my homemade rock tumbler in the garage and decided that I should probably commit to being a member since I could use a little help from here on out. Currently, I have 18lbs of mahogany obsidian that will be my first batch to process. I didn't find out till after the purchase that obsidian is probably the worst for people just starting out, lol. Anyways, once I properly fill my 4" pvc barrels and get the weight of rock I should be able to fill with grit/water and get the process going this weekend. From some of the reading I think I'm going with a pea gravel filler for the 60/90 course grind. Wish me luck!!

Thanks everyone!! Well, I'm a little disapointed about the weight of my homemade barrels. I used 4" pvc x 8" long with Oatley gripper pipe caps and they only hold 2 lbs of rock when 2/3rds full. Even though I can run (3) barrels at once, I thougt for some reason it would be more pounds per barrel. Clocked the barrels at 43rpm last night so I should be good there. I'll post pictures of my tumbler in the homemade section later tonight.

Welcome aboard, great to have another Michigan member. Sounds like you have your tumbler going good and got the rpm's right. Good luck with your obsidian batch.
