I finally had a chance to get to work on some of the Flint Ridge material my son and I gathered last month at the Nethers Farm in Central Ohio. I haven't been doing much knapping lately, and was a little rusty trying to get the points to come out - I broke, and, or, messed up about half of the ones I tried, but these were my end results. The 2 larger blades are my best ever made, and the smaller points are about average for my skills. The pictures aren't the best with the camera I have and the lighting wasn't that great either - the colors are a little brighter in real life. The larger black one is 5 1/4"....smaller one is about 4 1/2" ![](http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j25/dtcmor/071812234647-1.jpg) The largest in this group is about 3" down to just under 2"..... ![](http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j25/dtcmor/071812234808-1.jpg) Thanks for looking! Dave

Great job Dave. That looks hard to do and I'm sure requires a lot of practice and talent to get them looking like that Bill

Thanks guys for the compliments!
Bill- You are right in that it takes alot to get the points to come out. I have only been knapping for about 4 years and am still learning the basics. I still break way more than I make, but it is a great learning experience!
Curt- The big ones are my best points to date. I'm even amazed myself that I did them! ;D

Those are pretty cool. Someday I might have to learn how to do this also.

Great job on the points but, just sayin this isn't the board for new stuff, it's for artifacts and fossils

Thanks everyone for the compliments! I understand that these are new points, but at the same time they are modern day reproductions of pieces that are artifacts - Dovetail and Buttontail points from the ancient peoples that inhabited the Ohio region, mainly the Hopewell and Adena cultures during the Early Woodland period approximately 2,000-4,000 years ago. My pieces were made of the same materials - Flint Ridge Flint, gathered near the same place where the Ancient peoples quarried and worked the stone for tools at a site called Flint Ridge for thousands of years. I don't use the traditional "modern day" copper tools to knap my pieces, instead prefering to use hammerstones and deer antlers just as the Ancient peoples did.
I'm sorry that I didn't clarify this when I created the post, and hope that this explanation will serve to justify my reason for placing the post here in this spot. There really isnt another spot on the board where these would fit - maybe "Creations" or "Member Photographs". But, the description under the sub-title "Fossils/Artifacts" reads as follows... ....."For pictures and chat relating specifically to all things fossilized -polished or otherwise, and ancient human artifacts(arrowheads etc)".... Sorry for any misunderstanding...
Thanks again for looking! Dave

Dave, that's REALLY impressive. I can't imagine what it must take to create these! ...I don't use the traditional "modern day" copper tools to knap my pieces, instead prefering to use hammerstones and deer antlers just as the Ancient peoples did...
