Y'all will have to forgive my easily entertained self. I just did another repair and it tickled me to death. I'm still new, so these discoveries are still pretty awesome for me. I was working this stone (which was super thin BTW) and on the 5th wheel, a part of one of the shells popped out. I fished the piece out of the water, glued it back in and finished the cab. Too cool. You can't even tell. ;D Attachments:![](//storage.proboards.com/1258779/thumbnailer/ejAzHiKj4v5t9pl4roe6.jpg)

Beautiful turitella. I have done that a few times myself and do not understand how people got through life before super glue was invented. Jim BTW You will be entertaining yourself as long as there are rocks. New stuff all the time.

When I was a kid I had a neighbor who used to tumble (rocks) and he had the most gorgeous black Turitella - extremely agatized - big hunks of it. People used to wear it (around where I lived anyway - maybe that tumbler guy was making a killing - I was too young to know to ask such things) and I got used to seeing it jet black with a water-wet shine and it was hard - never saw any of it break - saw plenty of it dropped.
Since I've been into rocks the past couple of years it seems all I see are the crumbly or weak brown pieces except for an occasional ebay auction that wants a LOT for a very small amount of the gemmy stuff.
Did it just run out or has the browner (and weaker) material just gotten more popular?

I just bought a really nice piece of Wyoming turitella from river-bend-lapidary and it was not expensive at all. I have only found one piece here in Wyoming and the piece I bought was way better than the piece I found. Check in with them once in a while and they may have more. Very good people to deal with. Jim

Thanks everyone and Mostly- your arrow looks familiar somehow ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I got this little slab at a recent gemshow. It only had the one good cab in it. The rest was crumbly. It is dark, though and took a great polish. I got it too cheap to pass up. I've never cut it before, but found it pretty easy to work, except one edge wanted to be a little crumbly. It is just one edge, I think it will be ok.
