Here are some of my other hobbies when I'm not playing with rocks. I go for 'softer' stuff! I knit, and spin my own yarn as well. Needle felt cute things out of wool. I sew purses and quilt. And I ride my bike. Cute bugs Don!! I especially like the hanging spider!

Nope. All cut out of wood. Gonna modify the pattern this winter and make a rockhound kid.

Hey Randy, got my eye on a street legal, all steel 27 dirt track roadster. Guy wants $14,000 for it. It has around 800 miles on the engine, tranny and rear end. Got a built flathead.

You may have guessed that I am a guy who juggles. I also ride a unicycle. My son is a much better unicyclist, but I'm a better juggler. Here's a video we made this spring: And if you'd like to learn to juggle, check out my website: wildcatjugglers.comI also like landscaping/gardening and waterskiing.

Has anyone heard of sage brush? ;D ;D ;D Well since there is a little of it around here I thought I would try to make something out of it. I drive around until I find an area where the sage brush is dieing out and start looking for interesting pieces. Finding pieces that have been dead just long enough for the bark to weather off but the trunk has not rotted is the hard part. If the bark has not weathered off it takes days and days to clean up the piece. Combining it with rocks is the fun part. If you have enough rocks you can always find something that will fit. Here are some of my fits. The little guy on the left is yelling "HEY YOU GUYS, WAIT UP, I THINK I BROKE MY LEG" And this is the table that I am going to cover with stone. The only screws are the ones in the two underneath cross boards that hold the two top boards together. Everything else is fastened together with leather shoe lace which you can see on the top. Hope you enjoyed another of my art (hobby) tours. This has kept me busy and out of trouble for ?100s of hours. Jim

Hey Jim, never used sage, but dead Cholla cactus cut in sections makes great stands for spheres.
Hey Randy, The car is in the twin cities area, about 5 hours from me. The title is clear, and its plated for the road. May have to raid my IRA and borrow the neighbors equipment trailer. ( My wife will kill me ) lol. I'll find the link. I've always wanted 1 of 2 cars. A 27 track T, or a chopped and channeled 34 coupe. The 2 baddest looking cars on the road.

This is a great thread, Don! Thanks for starting it. Since rockhounding has basically taken all my "hobby budget", I shut down the reef aquariums so all other hobbies are the kind that don't require a lot of cash . My wife got me and the boyz into geocaching. Often we'll take the boyz bikes along and they get several miles of riding in while we search for the cache: Closely related to that is general hiking. This is a while back in the San Gabriel's: This is the view from Shell Ridge: My Dad, being a former pilot (USAF, American Airlines), he and I both enjoy checking out airplane museums. This is one of the best - "Planes of Fame" in Chino California. If you're into airplanes, this museum is a must. They have a full restoration facility and most of their aircraft are flyable. If you go on weekends, they'll often have several WWII aircraft in the air. It's a great museum: My Dad's basic trainer - the AT-6 My Dad's initial trainer - the B-25 Mitchell Thanks again, for starting this thread, Don. It's really interesting to see everyone's hobbies. Dee - those knit items are pretty cool! That area you're biking in looks beautiful! Don - love the wood cut. That's great - my wife thinks that's really cute. Pretty trick on the unicycles, Juggler! Paul

Geoff - AWESOME photos! Love the one of the eclipse. That came out great.
Bill - do you ever do larger terrariums? Like 5- or 10- gallon aquarium sized ones? Just curious. Those in your photos came nice.

Fantastic photos Geoff. The sagebrush reminds me that locally we have some great diamond willow, may have to try it for stands, it would be great for the petrified wood that I just aquired. I have to admit that my trade(landscaper) is also my hobby, will post some pics when I get a chance. Brenda

Geoff - Awesome photos especially the black and white. When I was studying photography I leaned toward the black and white even though color classes were available. Do you shoot any film or is it all digital? I prefer film but I no longer have the equipment to process and print.
Dee - Do you have time to sleep? My mother used to knit but I never learned. I did some crochet when I was a kid but thought it was not manly so I quit. Now I have lost the knowledge and the teacher. You do beautiful work. Human interest item: A large percentage of the Chinese women still knit unlike here where it almost became a lost art.
Bill - The terrariums are great. Dabbled in it once but was not very good at it.
Paul - Great family and aircraft pics. I was an aircraft hydraulics mechanic in the military and still have a bit of a love for planes. Do you have a license? Jim

Lol, Jim, I don't need much sleep~ one small advantage of being an 'old timer!' I love how you use the wood, that table is awesome! Have you tried jewelry pieces with small bits of wood? Could be an interesting pendant!
Geoff - Gorgeous pictures!I'm curious too, if you do film or digital. Do people use film anymore?
Rob - You have mad skills. I don't do mountain biking, because my bike handling skills are pathetic. Much less a unicycle, while juggling!
Bill - Those are beautiful terrariums, like a mini shrine!
Paul - I've been intrigued with geo-caching! Haven't tried it though. What's the most interesting or unusual thing you've found?
