Most vibes have a threaded rod with a lock nut at bottom. If you can somehow hold the threaded rod and remove the top nut you should be able to see how it attaches once the bowl is removed. If the threaded rod is turning it should unscrew. They usually strip or wear down at the top.

If you destroy the rubber, you can go to most any craft store and get a sheet of it for less than a dollar. Clean up the surface and reapply silicone if needed and you can use contact cement to put the rubber back down. Good luck, Scott

When you get the old rod out, go to the hardware store and get a length of stainless steel allthread. It won't wear out nearly as fast. Cut a piece of 1/4" tubing just a little shorter that the top of the bowl, and slide it over the allthread for added protection.

One can also get more use before replacing by cutting a piece of metal pipe to fit over the rod so the nut hits fresh threads. The pipe is slightly larger than the holes in the washers. Similar to pic below, in this case used to run a 3lb bowl (open) on a UV 10. Also, saves a lot of turning the wingnut. . . The alum. pipe I used fits through the hole in the lid, so can be used to secure the wingnut for the bowl, or the top one, or both.

What rubber? You mean the sheet of "rubber" that the barrel sits on? You might just try a piece of old inner tube. You also need to replace the cheap pressed nuts that come with the machine. Solid nuts have more thread to grab the rod. The nuts really need to be replaced in brand new machines too. I think if you were to use brass nuts, (more expensive than stainless steel) they would wear out, and not the much harder stainless steel rod. Much easier to replace the next time. ADDENDUM: This is hardly a unique problem, I've seen it discussed on the Rock Tumbling Forum several (at least) times. Has anyone ever talked to the manufacturer about it? www.thumlerstumbler.com/contact.html Why aren't they using stainless steel rods and solid nuts in their industrial Ultra-Vibes in the first place? Sure it would cost a little more, but it seems to me it would be worth it.
