Yeah. Mebbe. But it looks like the person is just trying to dump it to get it off their front porch.

Soapstone is too soft to be wearable but it is great to learn carving with because it is so soft. It would take a really long time to carve up a ton of it. Grind it up and add a little fragrance you can use it in place of baby powder. lol Jim

Lol. Or it could make a good doorstop! Yeah, gotta watch the feedback huh. But hey. If I was in NY, I'd roll the dice on it. Great to learn on.

What negative feed back? The one about shipping? Hell, I'd hope no one plans on getting 1000 lbs of soapstone in the mail! Lol!

Haha yeah that would be hilarious - road trip up there, and find out it's just granite!
You have to read the positive feedback too -- I've given a couple of positives that have subtle or not so subtle clues to future buyers hidden in them. But, as you point out Geoff, feedback about shipping is only so useful on an item that's supposed to be pickup only. ;-)

For those in the LI NY area interested in carving there is not much downside. It is either soap stone or it isn't. If it is for $50 you got a good deal. If not all you lost was some time. I used to live 1/2 hour from Huntington Station though now I am much to far away to check it out.
