If it is green it is a very old Lortone. They were green about 35 years ago. Then switched to gold and eventually to the light blue most people think of as "Lortone blue". Nice clean saw.

I just helped my friend get her old Highland Park 18" going that was given to her awhile back. It was damn near identical to your saw including carriage and vise system. I know you will enjoy the saw no matter who made it though!

Congratulations, looks like you got yourself a good saw! And that looks like it might be an old Vanguard Diamond Blade with lots of diamond still on it. Vanguards were very good blades. If it is a Vanguard and isn't damaged then as long as you keep it dressed properly, you'll be amazed how much use you will get out of that blade! One suggestion I would make though. It looks like the arbor has the old style platen/flange that mounts with a set screw. You might want to replace that with a newer one piece arbor from Lortone. When I bought mine I think they charged about $75.00 for it. The one piece arbor that Lortone sells now runs truer than the old ones with the set screw mounted platen/flamge and will make your blades last longer. Happy Slabbin'!

I thought it was a Lortone label. What does it say? Components do look like HP now that I look past the label. Maybe HP made the larger saws for Lortone? The notched rim blades were made by HP, Star Diamond, Felker depending on age with many labels. When BD was using the old Star Diamond blade factory blades were shelved unpainted and painted to customer's specs before shipping. Interesting blade history on the BD web site.

That's a Lortone LS18. Highland Park wasn't involved in it at all. There's not much that can compete with a Highland Park, if anything, they were built much heavier--I know i've had both of them at one time. However this is a nice saw and will work well and not ones gona be able to tell if your slabs came off a Lortone or HP lol. Def a great find.

Yes I have had a lot of fun with this so far, with out any real problems. So what is the rule about cutting oil? I am using form oil. I run it till it looks milky and then let it sit for a week or two. Then drain oil into a five gallon bucket and let that sit to settle out further. I then plan on filtering that thru some kinda paint filter and reuse it. So I have one bucket sitting and another in saw. This seems to be working ok and should keep me cutting nealry full time. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks Monte

Form oil is perfect if you are ok with the smell. It's nice and water thin since it's formulated to spray. I pour my used saw sludge into two brown grocery bags and allow the oil to filter through them.
