Petrified wood ? I found some of this unmistakable wood on resent adventure. After a cut to expose the inner beauty ? the meat of the piece was only the most unremarkable, uncharacteristically dry shade of black I have seen. I now feel just a little silly for expelling such a great deal of energy, too bend over, and even pick it up and tote it around. .

I don't know but some times I just feel the urge to open up the hood on slab saw and turn it on. If I did not have my mouth open screaming most of it would have hit me right in the face. I did how ever choose to stand my ground. Much like Kato and Inspector Jacques Clouseau! chopping wildly at a seemingly endless line of form oil now covering most of the shed. After the sheer terror of this wore off. I regained my composer and turned off the oil fling~er.

That is a great conversation piece to share an experience. Where did the color go that was on the top of it in the first pic ?

I think the exterior is cool! Why bother cutting any more?

Yep I agree. I did try the putting a slice in Clorox for a few days. It did bleach out some of the black, and there was some grain coming out. But it also ate a hole in bottom of stainless steal measuring cup. I did not know Clorox was that corrosive. Though I don't think this would be a practical method of de~staining wood. (its a technical term) and cutting it made my oil all dirty.
