compromise; put a glass top on the whole thing so they woin't spill their milk in the carving and throw some cushions on the stools. And maybe raise it up about 10 inches :<)

I can see why your staff said no - isn't that overweight for most average rooms as a stationary object (like waterbeds - gotta be a little careful with some as they weight so much - mine cracked the floor).
Anyway it's a beauty as far as I'm concerned. Tell the wife you'll write to her from your nice table, lol...
