Hello from Washington. I have been following as a guest for sometime and decided it was time to chime in. Will be heading to Kaner Flats this weekend for some thundereggs. So my question is for thundereggs. Do you flat lap them as soon as you cut them open? I have some I cut some time ago and just got the flat lap and I can't seem to get a shine off them.

First of all, welcome aboard.
You don't mention what type or size of flat lap you have. For a conventional flat lap, try grinding a very slight bevel around the outside edge of your T-eggs before starting the lapping process. This allows grit to get under them. Some materials are harder than others to achieve that high shine you're looking for. Take it as far as you can on the flat lap, and finish the center of the piece on a polishing wheel.
Good luck, and post pics of your progress.

It's a covington 10" vibrating. I did put the bevel around I am just wondering since they have a lot of water content if that dries it out and leaves some major cracks and fissures?
