I know this pic doesn't show up that well but I found some vein quartz that has a pocket of black in it. The matrix is some kind of metamorphic with a vein of white quartz over it about 2 inches thick but in the one spot is this black quartz pocket with some tendrils that stretch out into the surrounding white quartz. The colours have a sharp definition between them also; no blending. Considering that smokey quartz is formed from the material being bombarded by radiation; and if this was formed somehow else, it is totally bizarre to me how this occurred. any guesses or info on this including idle speculation is fine ;D Lloyd Attachments:

Without seeing it "in hand", there's a possibility that it might be wire silver. It would be tarnished black before cleaning or smelting.

it's the black quartz under the snowcap in the picture, it's definately quartz that somehow got coloured smokey, in that pocket and a little bit of veining leading away from it

Hi, Lloyd, If you get a chance, would you please post another photograph of the specimen, maybe of it "standing up" so members might could see it better? It looks like smoky in there to me, too, but wondered if it might be something else.
