We just got back from a trip to the Teanaway River in Washington, and brought back a few pretty pieces as well as some interesting serpentine. All the nephrite we found this trip was in very narrow veins in the serpentine. The white spider webbing you can see is not cracks. Woody Here is the whole cart load, a wee bit over two hundred pounds. The serpentine One of the slicks A close of it. Another one And again One more A thin skin of nephrite

When you say narrow veins are you talking narrow like the thickness of the jade skin on the one rock or are you talking about a six to twelve inch thick vein in a huge vein of serpentine. Mel sent some nephrite to me that came from Washington and it is nothing like what I find here but the light colored veins in it are really nice. Jim

Dennis, and all:
There are quite a few deposits of nephrite in Washington, especially in the northwest corner of the state. Deer Creek near Oso is a good site as is the Skagit River. Jadeite is found as float in several places, but only one site in situ is known. Little of Washington jade is near the quality of B.C.s Polar jade, so the value really feel when the Polar deposit was discovered. Woody
