if anyone is going to start learning foldforming, I really recommend the introductory book ( www.brainpress.com/Foldforming.html - that and a few good hammers, especially a cross peen.

thanks Milt. I used plain old silver solder, but tossed a bit of iron in the pickle pot..it copper plated the solder. What solution do you use in your pickle pot?

I"m not really sure Scott. My silver solder stuff was obtained second hand. the flux, pickle, liver of sulfur where all in unlabled bottles and jars. I just sprinkled some pickle into my pickle pot with some water and called it good.

I"m not really sure Scott. My silver solder stuff was obtained second hand. the flux, pickle, liver of sulfur where all in unlabled bottles and jars. I just sprinkled some pickle into my pickle pot with some water and called it good. Perhaps sodium hyposulfate. I am trying to understand the chemistry behind electroless plating of copper from the pickle pot using a piece of iron. I could use some liver of sulfur. Anybody have a way to get it from a local socal seller? I should have also complimented you on your work. Indeed it is very nice. Seasonal too. Also, may I ask, where do you get your copper?? Seems very expensive lately.

Thanks Scott.
I purchased the copper from riogrande.com $15 for two 6x12 sheets. still cheaper than silver.

you can pink things with iron in sparex pickle. it happened by accident at the arts center and that made me think about copper coloring solder.
right after Don confirmed it, I got Lexi Erickson's ebook on soldering tips, and she mentioned the trick too.

That is soooooo cool! Thank you very much & I love the necklace. What I really like though is the coloring of that first leaf you opened up after hammering! WOW!
