Hi, field trippers! The September Area 54 field trip will be on Saturday the 29th, starting time 9:00 am. All of the details of the trip can be found on our field trip website, Rockhound Field Trip Fanatics! at rockhound-field-trips.ning.com/events/area-54-panoche-hills-western-fresno-co-ca-saturday-september-29-You'll have a chance to collect to your hearts content at this dry creek bottom location, featuring over 20 easily accessible farm rock "drag piles." This is in addition to the fact that the entire area is in the estuarial deposits of the ancient inland sea, with centuries worth of rock to be collected. The types of rock that can be collected are far too numerous to list, suffice to say that if you've colllected it on the Central Cali Coast, you may find it here. And yes, you can collect Blue G here!   We hope to see everyone who missed the trip last month, we'll bring along plenty of DC O'Sidian and other lithic delicacies to tempt you, so bring trading rock with you. Of course, cash will tempt us, too! Many thanks, rockhounds! Kris Hand-2-Mouth Mining Rockhound Field Trip Fanatics!

Well, this trip is expanding! We'll be camping out at Area 54 on the 29th, with full canal access for dumping cool, clear water over our fevered heads to remove the grit and grime of collecting. Our collecting trip will continue Sunday, with lots of time for trading and looking through the slabs and rough that everyone are encouraged to bring along. This slab now resides with one of our field trip site members, back in Texas! Here's the trip page on our field trip site: rockhound-field-trips.ning.com/events/area-54-panoche-hills-western-fresno-co-ca-saturday-september-29-There's easy access to services and real restrooms, Subway's sandwiches, and all the other essentials. There's even a REAL (1 man) French bakery in Firebaugh that we'll be shopping on our way out. This is a superb family friendly site, remote yet easily reached. The material available includes most of what you can find throughout the Central Coast, even some marine fossils. The entire area is easily accessed by nearly any vehicle, unless you rockhound in a Lamborghini! Be sure to check out the Google Map. The extension north of the Panoche Loop Trail is where Area 54, the Small Pile & Big Pile are located, as well as the Chevron Travel Plaza at the Nee's Ave/Firebaugh offramp from I-5. If you want to see tons more photos of the rocky fruits of this prolific (understatement alert!) site, check out the Photos link on our field trip site, and on our business website, too. We hope that everyone will join us for a great rockhounding weekend! Best regards, Kris

It is pretty intense. That camera I used also likes to juice things up a little bit though. It's not exactly "pure" red, but pretty darn close.
