I dont know as much as you do about US politics - maybe only a tiny fraction - if that.
I watched Obama today at a college in VA and he was awesome.
As I say - for all I know he could be wrong in what hes saying but having watched him do his stuff - he won me over!!!!

And there lies the problem Mark. His out and out lies win over a lot of people because he is so charismatic.
His main goal is to change America and we don't need to be changed, we need to be fixed.

Curt - I just also watched another guy - republican - younger - would that be the vice president if elected? Anyways - he aint Obama hes firmly Mitt. He was good - too - but missing the word you used - Charisma I think.
I dont know - maybe change is whats needed to "fix".
Personally - with my limited knowledge - I would say the only way to prosper is to slash imports from the far east. But I doubt any president or government would ever dare say that. That would be WWIII talk im afraid.

Well - I vote Romney now!!! (if I were American of course).
He better be quick - because if China starts to increase the quality of the exports - then the whole planet is a gonna.
Yup - he may be saying it because its what voters want to hear.....
Same old same old I guess.

*L* The prince of lies strikes again. Mark, here in Texas we call Obama's ilk a snake oil salesman. He talks pretty, has a great persona and is unfortunately a total bullsh*t artist who thinks he can lie and buy his way into a re election. And, unfortunately blacks and latinos being mostly racist and hating whitey, the poor hating those who have stuff, lots of the country being dummies, and another bunch reliant on "Obama Bucks" for their livelihood, the election is still a toss up. Just hoping a bunch of folks fall into the fool me once shame on you category and won't be taken for a second ride. Guess we'll find out in a couple of months *S*. We need change all right but change for the better, not Obama's kind of change *L*...Mel

Flowery speeches and soaring rhetoric cannot accomplish the task at hand. Romney Clashes With Business Over China Trade: Mitt Romney says the U.S. must be willing to say “no more” to its rocky trade relationship with China. If elected president, he vows to brand China a currency manipulator on his first day in office. He also says he’ll place extra tariffs on Chinese imports to correct an undervaluation of the Chinese currency, the yuan, which helps make Chinese goods cheaper than U.S. goods. That stance puts Romney at odds with President Barack Obama, who’s resisted formally rebuking China for its currency practices. No doubt the Republican challenger wants to differentiate himself from the incumbent in his dealings with the world’s second-largest economy. www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-28/romney-clashes-with-business-over-china-trade-bgov-insight.html

Mark, You are correct about Obama. He is a good, incredibly smart man who has served the country well. When he came into office the world was moving toward a major depression which has been thwarted. Our automobile industry was in collapse and has become successful again. He talks the talk and walks the walk and is a powerful leader and a major success story.
Dont be fooled by Romney. He says whatever the audience wants to hear. He opposes Chinese imports, except that he promoted Chinese interests when he was at Bain. He closed an American parts plant and forced the workers to train their Chinese replacements.
Romney is talking tough on Iran and Syria; the last President who talked tough like that got us into a war with Saddam Hussein that we have yet to recover from.
By contrast, Obama has withdrawn America from occuying Iraq and the timetable for full withdrawal from Afghanistan is going ahead as we speak.
We had a President back 100 years or so ago, Teddy Roosevelt who coined a slogan, "Speak softly and carry a big stick." That is how Obama operates, firm and serious, no empty unnecessary threats. Romney, like Bush, talks like he can't wait for the next war, or who gets killed to make his glory. No need for tough talk and boasting and threats when you've got the US Military in your arsenal; it speaks for itself. Obama has kept America safe without resorting to threats and wars every time there is a situation, like Syria, for example, or Egypt, or Tunesia, any of the Countries in the new Democracy of the Middle East. We have no business interfering there and in every little situation that happens all over this globe.
Obama has proven to be more effective in keeping America safe than these big talkers with their empty threats
The US economy may not be firing on all cyliders, but we are doing much better than most of Europe and otrher free countries around the world. The US stimulus and Bank policies have shielded us from the major economic problems being felt around the globe. Our energy policy has us drilling oil and gas at record rates, while still exploring wind, solar and alternative power at the same time. This despite, the problems we've seen with deep water drilling accidents, pipeline ruptures and the uncertain safety for fresh water supplies, that fracking has presented.
Dont be fooled by Mitt, he is looking for a new playtoy, the Presidency, the ultimate status symbol. When he was running for Governor, he was for a Womens Choice, running for President he is against that choice. When he was Governor, he was for Universal Healthcare, now he is against the same Universal Healthcare that he helped author. He is against Government handouts, but he has taken advantage of Givernment handouts to make millions. He parks his money in off shore accounts to circumvent US taxes and supports laws to help Corporate welfare while fighting to end help for the unemployed and poor.

Welcome to the left's alternate bizarro reality. Sixteen trillion in debt and growing with monstrous interest payments, tens of trillions in unfunded liabilities, heading for a ratings downgrade, monstrous unemployment and underemployment, a leader that does not believe in his own country and believes you can spend your way out of debt, huge annual deficit, huge government intrusion into the lives of citizens, half the country on some kind of dole, a leader that tells lie after lie and has divided the entire country into warring camps and ole Charlie thinks all is well. *L* Yep, no problemo compadre. I'm sure everything in your little world of fantasy is just hunky dory...Mel

Will correct more of Mel's outrageous distortions tomorrow:). Here's my 1 minute quick response. OBAMA is the Commander in Chief and the Foreign Policy head of the USA, not the lawmaker or the Fed, which is independent. Lets recall the 2 weeks worth of humiliating stupidity Romney foisted on the USA's image at his little 'visit' for the Olympics in London. You know, the one where he became the laugh of the UK for 2 weeks because he's so stupid. (will find the direct quotes for his Commander in Chief image at Hurricane Issac tomorrow... what a clueless moron). Let's recall the little visit to Poland where he collected the dethroned socialist labor head's 'endorsement', while his polish audience yelled out OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA!!! He's so respected all over Europe, what a great US representative. The only nation that would welcome him would be China, because he outsourced so many US jobs there as the US Pioneer of outsourcing US jobs. Wonder what US military technology he'll sell them as President. Let's recall him reassuring Israel that we are prepared to go to war again over Iran, more WMD *rolls eyes*. Let's note that he COMPLETELY forgot to mention US troops in his Republican speeches at the convention, when he's so ready to commit more of them to die for Isreal. And finally, lets not forget that 17 of his 24 Advisors were Bush's. So the Republicans are voting in Bush II. And Bush took our nation well on its way to surplus WITH a balanced budget, directly towards Deficit and Depression when Obama took over. How quickly we forget... Let's not conveniently forget that the deficit rises as a PERCENTAGE of total debt due to interest payments, the higher the amount, the more % is tacked on. Doh. But since no one wants to point out what the President's actual JOB is (Commander in Chief and Foreign Policy head), lets point out what he affects instead: Vote Bush back in office in November 2012, because he did SUCH a great job before... you know, 8 years of tax cuts that led to near Depression worldwide, because Supply Side economics works! And Mitt Romney's about to do it again! WHEE!!!

Wow. . . speaking of outrageous distortions,. . . "OBAMA is the Commander in Chief and the Foreign Policy head of the USA, not the lawmaker or the Fed, which is independent."Laws are made by congress, Obama's party controlled both the house and the senate for the first two years of his term. The second half controlled by the republicans in the house, and democrats in the senate which would give democrats the majority. The Fed board members are appointed by the US President and approved by the Senate. Otherwise it is a private, unaudited bank that has the unique ability to print money. The President may remove the Chairman, and any of the governors, for "cause." Federal Reserve Act, 12 USC 242 -------------------------------------------------- "2 weeks worth of humiliating stupidity Romney foisted on the USA's image at his little 'visit' for the Olympics in London."Romney said it was "disconcerting" that the Olympics organizers had encountered difficulties over security. How dare he. . . it's not like the Olympics are a target for terror or anything. . . CNN said, Olympics security failure is 'humiliating shambles,' boss concedes. Security concerns hit the headlines this month when it emerged that private security contractor G4S, which was supposed to have provided 10,400 guards for the Olympics and Paralympics, would not be able to deliver. -------------------------------------------------- The Poland trip? The presidential candidate was received in the birthplace of Poland’s communist-era democratic trade union Solidarity by crowds of cheering Poles, as well as several dozen protesters. One group of protesters chanted “Obama, Obama” as Mr. Romney left the meeting with Mr. Tusk, while another group held a banner supporting Romney's Republican rival Ron Paul. No different than the way the media tries to inflate the significance of a dozen code pink protesters here, so there were a few protesters chanting Obama. . . BFD ------------------------------------------------- "The only nation that would welcome him would be China, because he outsourced so many US jobs there as the US Pioneer of outsourcing US jobs. Wonder what US military technology he'll sell them as President."Another slimy lie, debunked by Factcheck.org and a slew of others. factcheck.org/2012/06/obamas-outsourcer-overreach/Obama’s ‘Outsourcer’ Overreach The president's campaign fails to back up its claims that Romney 'shipped jobs' overseas. The comment on Romney selling US military technology to China, Entirely unfounded speculation, based on nothing at all.China on Romney? China Daily attacked Mitt Romney last Monday, on the eve of his nomination as the Republican Party’s presidential candidate. “It requires political vision as well as profound knowledge of Sino-U.S. relations as a whole, to make sensible policy recommendations about what are widely recognized as the most important bilateral ties in the world,” Beijing’s official English-language newspaper stated in an editorial. “Romney apparently lacks both.” Two days later, the paper issued what was ostensibly a news story but was essentially a criticism of the new candidate’s trade policies, especially his stand on Chinese currency practices. The Republican candidate has famously pledged that on his first day in office he would brand China a currency manipulator. -------------------------------------------- "Let's recall him reassuring Israel that we are prepared to go to war again over Iran, more WMD *rolls eyes*."This one is a matter of judgement and opinion. My opinion, those who listen to Ahmadinejad saying that they will annihilate Israel, and still turn a blind eye to their Nuclear weapons program are the real morons. -------------------------------------------------- Not mentioning the troops, in his acceptance speech perhaps a miss-step, but Romney leads Obama 58%-34% among veterans. "The day before the convention speech, Gov. Romney traveled to Indianapolis on Wednesday and delivered a speech before the American Legion. And in that speech he talked about Afghanistan. He also talked about 1 trillion dollars in defense cuts that are going to be taking place under this president, which his own defense secretary has said will be devastating to our national defense. That was an invitation that President Obama declined. -------------------------------------------------- "And finally, lets not forget that 17 of his 24 Advisors were Bush's."And not a Marxist, Socialist, Progressive or Commie in the lot. . . works for me.

And as for the Debt Chart, The Washington Post, one of the most liberal news organizations gave it FOUR PINOCCHIOs. www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/a-bogus-chart-on-obama-and-the-debt-gets-a-new-lease-on-life/2011/09/28/gIQAx40Y6K_blog.html"There’s a saying attributed to Winston Churchill that goes something like this: "A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on." Try as we might at The Fact Checker, we find that no matter how many times we clearly identify an untruth — such as a ridiculous e-mail on Obama’s health-care plan — it still keeps popping up, months later. So imagine our surprise when we found in our Facebook feed this week a chart, purporting to show how Republican presidents — Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush — had increased the debt by a significantly greater percentage than either Bill Clinton or President Obama. Pretty impressive chart, “liked” by at least 7,000 people on a posting by the liberal group MoveOn.org. " But this chart, originally created by the office of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, is as phony as a three-dollar bill. Our friends at PolitiFact did a pretty thorough takedown of it in May, giving it their worst rating: “pants on fire.” They even caught the Pelosi people in a bad mathematical error, based on the fact that the Democrats calculated the numbers as if Obama took office a year later than he did. " Update: David Clayton, one of our dedicated readers, crunched the numbers for calendar years and shows that, in the transition from Bush to Obama, adjusting the dates makes a difference in the result. His math shows that a more accurate figure would be plus 11.6 percentage points for Bush and plus 19.7 percentage points for Obama. The shift doesn’t change the overall result but divides up the responsibility for the debt more accurately. In a later column, we also posted other ways that readers suggested to look at presidential debt records. One can offer reasons for why Obama’s performance appears so poor, including the fact that he is battling a recession. An improvement in the nation’s economy would boost the gross domestic product, which would certainly begin to reduce his ratio. But the fact remains that under basic economic measures, not phony ones, his record on the growth of the national debt is the worst of recent presidents. (We make that statement using the logic of Pelosi’s office, which pins all of the growth of the debt on individual presidents. In reality, many factors, including the economy, wars and congressional actions, contribute to the rise of the debt.) The Pinocchio Test If MoveOn.org or Pelosi’s office had any sense of shame, they would have quietly removed the links to this chart from their websites when PolitiFact gave it a “pants on fire” rating four months ago. The fact that an outdated version is still floating around — and that people are still deluded into thinking it to be correct — is doubly shameful. Four Pinocchios

Ah Helen, while the Bush years were bad ( wars cost a lot of money) your math trickery truly knows no bounds *L*. The percentages on your chart are extremely misleading as it's dollar increases that count. Obama's 16% increase is immense compared to Reagan's 189% " in dollars" Plainly you've followed your leader in bullsh*t lessons *L* Reagan's, huge by your graph , national debt increase was measured in billions while Obama's small one, by your chart, is about 6 trillion. To quote a wise person, " Don't piss down our necks and tell us it's raining" Helen. Jeez what a load of poop!.....Mel
PS: In what realm of weird math is going from a national debt of 10 trillion dollars to 16 trillion 16%? Looks like a 60% increase under Obama to me, and Bush had eight years and two wars while Obama has only needed 3 1/2 years to increase the amount owed to pert near 16 trillion and one of the wars is pretty much over.

The truly accurate way to count the increases is to show how much the debt went up as a percentage of GDP, looks pretty bad for Obama after not even three years in office. In fact, Obama does almost twice as poorly as Reagan — and four times worse than George W. Bush.
Reagan: plus 14.9 percentage points
GHW Bush: plus 7.1 percentage points
Clinton: down 13.4 percentage points
GW Bush: plus 5.6 percentage points
Obama: plus 24.6 percentage points
Keeping in mind that this is based on real numbers, it can only go up if the trends under Obama continue.

Yah right. I posted the figures directly from the US Treasury Dept site. Which tabloid did you get yours from:)? You don't want to READ the Gov't sites themselves, not from the Treasury, not from the IRS, not from the Congressional Budget Office. Then you throw out tabloid numbers *facepalm*. S'ok, I'm accomodating:P. Now you get PICTURES since you like em best:)!! And you talk about LIARS?! Blaming Obama for his 'hometown' auto plant that closed THE YEAR BEFORE OBAMA TOOK OFFICE (please look at the YEAR at the bottom of the photo banner... LOL!). And maybe you ought to look at some REAL articles about Romney instead of his bought advertising? This is an actual cover: And as for the UK... Mark lives in the UK, maybe he ought to give us the Brit impression of Romney (AGAIN) and not Romney spin:)? Mark, did Romney come off particularly PRESIDENTIAL to you when he visited the UK for the Olympics? Why are you guys trying to tell Brits what they think, when you have a brit here to tell you what he thinks himself?
