While working on my home in Mendocino putting in French drains, I dug up this little gem. Not really sure if it originates from here or was transplanted by somthing eles. Is obsidian found around this area? Here's a pic of what it looks like: Here's the trench I found it in:

I would be digging some more. I would think if just one rock it isn't local.

You are on the southern edge of the main obsidian fields, so I would hazard a guess that it is a local, and not a piece that had been transported. Typically, early man transported obsidian as large preforms (look like large points) and not as cobbles. I would search a few streams uphill from you for more. Woody
