I bought some "Gary Green" sight unseen. Didn't work out. It is clearly not Gary Green, and I would say it is not even petrified bog. When confronted, the seller claimed the miner sad it was bog, and people said it looked like Gary Green, and that that was good enough reason to call it Gary Green. I did not buy into any of that. No refund or exchange, apparently "buyer beware". So what is it? Dry: Wet:

Not sure about slabs. It is covered in bad karma. I need it to be away from me. I think I will donate it to the Topeka club show. I might cut the two bigger pieces in half. I'll post a pic if there is any surprise.

thanks Roy. I got a box form Tony a while back, so I do have enough. I jumped (too blindly) at what seemed a good price.
I thought this might be Hampton Butte, but the lack of more white in the cracks, and the odd thick red skin made me think twice.
Some night soon, I will cut a piece in half and look for any evidence of wood.

Ya know, Hampton Butte was the first thing that came to mind, too! But then I'm just a rookie so what do I know!

Donnie, you are too modest. I know how long and how many rocks you have looked at and discussed.

No gary green indeed, but it looks very good, maybe even better than gg. Reminds me of morissonite.
The purple one is also beautiful.

What would you take for the whole 20lbs?

I only paid $1.50/lb plus MFRB - but I have already spoken to someone about them taking any pieces I don't want for $1/lb plus shipping. I will post an advert if that deal falls through.

You know, you may be surprised when you cut it. I think it looks worth a try. Maybe your pictures are just too good but from here it looks like nice material. Fran

Despite getting something other people might want, nothing worse than getting a pile of **** that you didn't want in the first place. Luckily it wasn't a huge expense but still a disappointment and a waste of time and effort. I won't say it hasn't happened to me before.

OK, I cut the two most promising pieces. They looked well silicified, and I saw a hint of pattern on one, and the oval cross section of the other suggested it might be a whole round. They show pretty well. ... and I think safe to call it Hampton Butte I am not going to cut the biggest piece or the other small ones. I will sell them and let someone else try for a surprise. I was right about the whole round. It has been compressed resulting in oval instead of round and you can see where a pie slice broke out and got re-cemented. I think I will face polish the round wedges for specimens. I will cut the other for trade slabs. I hope there are still some good surprises left for the next guy.

I think they are very pretty! Some pits and fracture lines but it really does look like someone will be able to make some good cabs out of the slabs you do cut. Fran
