Somebody post something, quickly!! ....before this place dies. Here ya go: San Simone jasper. Picked this up at a rock show. Anyone know the story behind this one? I assume it's a cousin of Stone Canyon Jasper.

I did a rock show a month or so back and an old timer came to our booth and showed us his Sunset Turquoise necklace that he had commissioned to be made with a rare piece of turquoise that he used to mine. He was kind enough to let me take a picture: He wanted to sell his jewelry to us, but we where trying to sell some ourselves...it's amazing the people you meet at shows...and how many of them want to sell you something.

Wow... that is so gorgeous! Even though I do not need more jewelry, I would be very tempted. Randy, Here's a better pic of you playing in your rock pile.

Don: Yep, San Simeon Jasper is another of the brecciated Franciscan Formation cherts that include Stone Canyon, Stony Creek. Parkfied Jasper, Squires ranch Jasper, Creston Jasper, Trinidad Jasper etc. They are found all along both sides of the coast ranges from Ventura County to close to the Oregon border and in a few places in the Sierras where Jurassic period cherts are found on the surface like Mariposa County....Mel

I miss those cool Arizona mornings when the quail and dove are out calling. Don't miss the 120+ temperatures though...

Well I have finally got to the last box/bucket I purchased from an estate about 3 years ago. They were in a metal 5 gal bucket (no plastic buckets in those days) and the bottom had rusted real bad. All of these rocks had a rust stain so I threw them into a 1000 AO and polished with AO. It really cleaned them up. The old timer that polished them used a Scott-Murrey rotory tumbler. Never heard of it. The barrel is Scott-Murrey but the base and motor is the color of an old Lortone tumbler. Mike
