Those are some very nice looking pieces of obsidian. I like the pleasing shape and finish in that last picture. I just bought a few pounds of obsidian so I'll keep these tips close by while I try my hand at it.

thanks for that link Jean. I might not be able to get them any better at this point but I have enough for another batch so I may keep researching it. I also read somewhere about cutting small strips of felt or leather and adding that to the mix to cushion and help polish. Chuck I was reading this thread again and your mention of leather has me intrigued! When I cab obsidian I always use leather (smooth side out) and diamond paste to polish with excellent results. I've never tried leather scraps in a tumbler but am very curious about the finish you can get from it as a filler. If you experiment using leather with the next batch, I would love to see the results. Julie (MyNewHobby) sells the leather scraps, at least she used to, guessing she still does but not sure. People snatched them up as soon as she posted them. If you try it out and I don't see it... could you pm me the results?

I've got some of Julies leather.All this pretty ob I've been seeing,had to put a 12lber on.Gonna try it again,hopefully with better results than in the past.Time will tell.Dont know how the leather would work in a vibe,though.
