Does the price of gas go down when the price of a barrel of crude drops?

Gas does go down. Never as low as before though.

Gas does go down. Never as low as before though. Sorry, I emphasized the word "when" as I said it in my head, but it didn't come out that way in print. What I was trying to say was, does the price of gas go down at the same time as the price of crude oil drops?

No, but gas stations go through so much that the price can drop as early as a couple of days to a week later. Maybe even shorter as it seems the prices fluctuate every day. That said, I wouldn't expect rock shops' or ebay price to react nearly that fast but surely cerium should have gone down by now, almost 11 months after the collapse of the market. I have seen where the large vendors/importers are paying - as of this Spring - only a bit over a quarter of what they were paying 12 months ago . This hobby is expensive enough as it is, ya know? Gas prices go up and down with crude prices but a lot of speculation affects prices too. Hurricanes, refinery fires and other things that "may" affect prices cause sharp rises in price based on short supply possibility. In CA you can see the cycle of prices rising until people are really hurting enough to buy less. Then prices start dropping. They never seem to fall back to the starting point though.

John and Rick, I think you've both explained pretty well the vagaries of the free market in the real world. The commodity price drives the retail hobbyist price, but it's more complicated than that. I have no idea how the CeO is actually shipped, but the delivered price has got to be significantly more than the price at China. Delivery costs are not fixed either, they probably depend on how much you buy, certainly the price of fuel. I don't know, maybe some one here does, but where is the stuff processed and graded - Standard, Premium and Super, and then packaged into "wholesale" bags, or drums or however they move it to the next place? Is that what we get from China, or does any of that happen here? Who is repackaging it into baggies for us? The cost of getting it from the West Coast to the "interior" depends to a degree on fuel costs too. I have no idea what role the price of fuel may have had on the skyrocketing price of CeO we saw, but it seems like fuel costs could effect the price a lot. It's complicated. It does look like prices are falling though, that's good.
