Cool finds, I'll bet that was fun! I used to dig around in the phosphate mines in Florida when I was a kid, I sure do miss that stuff!

It was cool to be able to go. They move so much rock that there were whole boulders covered with calcite in the tailings piles, which is where we looked. I *really* wish I would have driven my truck into the mining area. They limited how many vehicles could go so I rode with the mine manager in his truck and I felt it prudent to avoid putting the real big pieces in his bed. I did load up some sweet semi-boulders into the old timers' suburbans. One piece I found had smoky colored crystals that were 2 inches thick all over it. Probably ~100# chunk. His eyes almost popped out when I asked if he'd like it
