I was taking taking my morning walk in the park and watched this thing streak across the sky, then arch downward and burn out. It left a huge crazy colorful trail, illuminated by the sun that hadn't risen yet. Got back home and snapped these pics They are saying it was a missile test from White Sands New Mexico. Pretty neat!

I've seen these and they are pretty cool looking. How much time between those to pictures Brian? Just curious because there isn't much change in the vapor pattern but, you can tell some time has gone by between shots

Gary there wasn't much time between pics.. the first was with flash, the second without.
Ed that's great someone captured it on video! Still tripping me out a bit as it was early and dark and I had just woke up.. sleep walking for exercise lol. The pics I took were after the fact (obviously), but I was glad I could rush back 'n get Christa to come see it and snap a few pics.
Yeah gotta love the summer winding down, been a great week with all the rain!!!

Living in SoCal, we used to see missiles launched from Vandenberg every so often. Most of the time, they launched late in the afternoon/early evening, so it would be lit up by the setting sun, and would hang around for quite a while before being blown out. The colors were amazing!
On a photo forum I belong to, several people from as far away as Brawley and Borrego Springs in SoCal posted photos of this launch. Jean

As a Navy Photographer back a few years at the Naval Aerospace Recovery Facility, El Centro, things like this were usually launched..or dropped early morning, or early evening so we had light for the photography, but people on the ground could not see whatever the object was clearly. For the Navy's part all these things are now done at China Lake. (The Navy version of Area 51) Woody
