Ok, so I have a question about silver sheen obsidian.
I have a slab of Gold Sheen obsidian that's very "sheeny". You turn it one way, it looks black(ish). You turn it another way, it looks gold.
So I've been thinking Silver Sheen must be the same, only silver color instead of gold.
Except I can't seem to find any. Every example I've managed to get a look at is just silver all the time, from every angle.
Is silver sheen different from gold sheen in that regard? Thanks!

I'm a little confused....
If you have a piece of silver sheen obsidian that is showing silver from every possible angle.... then that means the cutter is phenomenal! And yet, you say, that every silver piece you have seen is all directional silver? I'm baffled. I've cut silver sheen before and been SOL. To my knowledge, silver sheen is just like gold sheen except that gold sheen can sometimes contain the rare "fire" if you're lucky. I've never been that lucky but I'm always hoping and have many pounds to slab one of these days, gosh that would be a dream come true....

Hm. Yeah, all the silver I've seen (rough and slabs) just looks silverish to me. I guess it would be more accurate to describe it as a "silvery light grey from all angles". Does that help? I haven't seen any that flips from black to silver depending on the angle, but from your answer it sounds like such a thing does exist. (Keep in mind, I've only seen a few pieces in the flesh).

Susan,
Give me a few.... I "think", not positive though.... but I might have some nice silver in my Photobucket album. It will take me a bit to go through it cuz I don't have it in categories... it's around 30 pages long. I'll look though and see if I can find an example!

Ok, here is a silver tumbled ob. I'll add to this post if I find more. Same exact stone but if you look to the left of this picture of tumbles, you will see how the silver sheen stands out like a "LOOK AT ME" stone! Silver cab:

Yeah, that looks like the gold, only silver, as I expected. If you were to turn it a different direction the silveryness would disappear, right? Or sort of "flash" at least?

Depends.... the best cutters can cut a piece of ob that flashes from almost all angles. That's my goal as ob is my favorite material. As of right now though, I'm a better cabber than a slabber Silver or Gold should ALWAYS flash though. If it's not flashing it was either cut poorly or is a different type of ob... I didn't find anything else extraordinary in my album for silver sheen. You should be able to find it banded though just like gold. I personally don't think I have any that was cut in the right direction to show sheen banding. I do want to share this gold banded one with you though... Brian (Beefjello) gave the slab to me as a present to cab. I think it's my most favorite ob cab I have ever done! Hope you enjoy and HOPE you find this in silver (I'll faint when you do and then I'll harass you every day until you send me the scraps of it ;D)

Ok, I think I'm dense, sorry. Can you be really super specific about what you mean by "always flashes?" It should have one angle that's like "more flashy" than the other angles though, right? So it looks chatoyant?
Beautiful pictures, btw! And I looove that last cab. If such a thing exists in silver, I shall lock it away and horde it until the end of eternity! My Precious!!!

I pulled out my silver cab that I still have.... I can't video it correctly under shop lights. Looks good but not as good as it really is. I will video tomorrow under the daylight outside and show you the flash. It's striking but I can't capture it in a dark garage 100%, even with a daylight bulb....

Susan, there is a gray variety of obsidian that doesn't flash like silver sheen, just a silvery gray color from all angles. It's good sphere material imo. Silver sheen will flash just like the gold sheen, only silver instead of gold, just as you said.
Krystee that gold sheen cab is pretty spectacular.
