A couple months ago,I was hunting fossils on the Lost Creek beach south of Newport. I found a huge chunk of pressed sand formation(size of a basketball) that had fossil shells embedded into it that were whole. (Thought I had a pic of it,but I don't)...I worked on it for two months, chipping and spraying hardner on the shells. Finally today I became brave and gave the last wack with my chisel! It loosened the shells right where I wanted them to let go..... Gave them the final coating of sealer and here they are... 175 million year old shells......(Four inch shells)

Very nice! What do you use for hardener? I've used watered-down white glue, but I'm wondering if there is something better...

I have been using spray on lacquer....I spray a couple coats on the fossil itself, let it dry, work the metric from the fossil, then give the fossil one more coat....... Works so far......Man these shells are fragile too!!!
