I got a nice size slab or African Pietersite on ebay. One of the edges is unraveling. If I cut the edge so the loose material is removed will it stop? The only other piece I ever bought didn't have this problem. I contacted the seller. It was sold as lapidary material. I don't see how I can cut a cab of the edges unravel. Thanks Problem area on top.

can you stabilize with superglue?
there are fibers similar to tigereye, and sometime there are bits where the fibers are not well silicified.

I agree,
Heat your slab a little 150-170 degrees F) and apply a thin super glue to the areas that are giving you grief. As the slab cools, it will pull the glue into the loose areas and give stability while you are cutting it. Peitersite is too expensive to even waste the edges.

Yep, Fran described just the right stabilization technique. Peitersite is a fibrous material, much like tigereye, and sometime "frays" at the rough edges. That said, looks like a wonderful cab will be made!
cheers!
