I was rockhounding on the Willamette River today over by Salem. Found lots of green jasper and agates, plus a few good pieces of petwood.. I was walking by a newly falling gravel bed and this was popping out at me.... It has markings on it,made by man.....I wonder how old they would be....It was hiding in the gravel bed for many years I'm sure!About three feet of gravel covering it... Oh well either way its cool and its going in my "strange" collection.. I might clean it up or just leave the small gravel particles in the markings.

I'm no anthropologist, but what makes you think the rocks are man-made?

I'm no anthropologist, but what makes you think the rocks are man-made? I didn't say the rock was man made...The marks on the rock are man made..........LOL...............

I have the same background and question as Toad: what indicates the marks are man-made? Maybe it's more apparent in person than the photos.

If the marks are manmade, I wonder what the meaning is.

I live close to the Reservation here,so will go talk to one of the "Elders" about it..Yes,in person you can see the double arrows and designs on the rock.... In Montana I found many heart shaped rocks and the "Elders" there told me the warriors would make these stones and put them in their medicine pouched for good luck... Each Indian tribe did different things for different reasons and they used whatever they had to use to display it...

If it is in fact man made that is really awesome and we need to hear the story behind it. If it isn't then tell me it is and tell me a story anyway. Either way I like stories. Especially to do with rocks.
