I know it's not hollow, but I was told (here!) that this is a coconut geode. Thanks to John at JSGems, the new Genie he sold me, and the steel lap/magnetic Diamond Pacific pads - I was finally able to face polish it! It is fractured, which caught a lot of residue and some polish, but man I am still happy. This photo shows the polished and unpolished halves: ![](http://daharsh.net/s/IMG_20120926_010029.jpg) closer pic of the polished half: ![](http://daharsh.net/s/IMG_20120926_010037.jpg) My dad gave this to me earlier this year so I could cut it for him. I (naively) thought I could shine it up on my expando, and when I found that was not possible it sat in my garage. I received the flat lap and pads today for the Genie and now it is no longer a "wait and see" My dad's health has taken a very sad turn and I am going to try to spend as much time with him as I can, so being able to do this now is a big deal to me. He enjoys rocks a lot (he gave me my love for rocks although he never polished one in his life) and I am really glad I'll be able to give this back to him.

That is way kewl John. It's been almost 3 years since I lost my Dad. A suggestion. Get a tape recorder and have him give ya stories of his life. My sis an I wish we'd done it. Later Clyde
